Damn what a movie. The rewatchables talk about this all the time so finally watched it while I’m home alone for the week. Thought the performances were great and it was awesome to see young Wahlberg and Heather Graham. Loved Burt Reynolds as the serious director. I was not surprised once it hit the 80s and things started going downhill but man it made me sad to watch. Can’t wait to listen to the rewatchables episode on this and glad I got to check off a classic.

The firecracker scene is amazing cinema.

I may be in the minority when I think that Magnolia is the one that PTA will be remembered for, Boogie Nights is a more accessible film for general audiences and much of the great things he does is still in there. The performances make it, though, particularly all the support. Marky Mark was good and a good fit, but the supporting cast (as was the case in Magnolia, where it was really an ensemble, there was no clear lead as in Boogie Nights) was very strong.
Even though he hated the film, Reynolds gave one of the best performances of his career.

Admit it, you watched the last scene several times didn't you?

Boogie Nights is good, but would’ve been a ton better if anybody other than Mark Wahlberg was the lead in it.
The Sister Christian scene is fantastic though. And Heather Graham is *chef’s kiss*.

I disagree completely. Wahlberg's wooden acting was perfect for the part. It makes the character.

I said the other day when someone said Boogie Nights is the only movie he’s ever walked out, the cast in this movie is amazing. Wahlberg aside, so much talent.

Boogie nights is fricking amazing and one of the many reasons I consider the 90s to be the GOAT decade for movies, even better than the 70s

Extreme minority. Most people hate Magnolia and don't even know what it's about.
Tits and arse, that's what people remember. I had a local movie rental place in the 90s and they had a T&A section ...and the movies were always rented....it wasn't Porn, just regular movies that showed Tits and arse....like Fast Times at Ridgemont High...
Magnolia is a bewildering creative exercise and I applaud it. But people don't want that. They remember, T&A....for PTA and Boogie Nights is so cinematic to a degree it has no right to be.

Burt Reynolds' house in that movie is awesome
Sidenote, Julianne Moore is the ugliest cryer in the history of the entertainment industry

You know what makes the movie more enjoyable? Getting that TK421 modification for your sound system. Or, if you don’t have a system, you can get one with the TK421. They do the modification right in the store.
You’ll get twice the bass. I think you’re going to need all that bass.

Those recording sessions were some of the greatest in cinematic history. And I wonder to this day if they were legit high for that.

Boogie Nights is s classic. I have watched it on multiple occassions. I recommend watching Shutter Island. It is a pretty good horror film in the same class as The Silence of the Lambs.

Well let’s see it’s been nearly 30 years into his career and PT Anderson is best known for There Will Be Blood and Boogie Nights so…..
