Lawrence of Arabia was playing today at the River Oaks Theater in Houston. Great movie but so much better on the big screen. The cinematography is visually stunning. A masterpiece.
I need to watch it again...have watched it twice...incredible...The Right Stuff, Patton and Lawrence of Arabia...my go-to trio when I want to binge on epic films...

I recommend going to Wadi Rum in Jordan and seeing where he stayed and where some of the movie was shot. Some of Tatooine was filmed there too.

It’s really nice, cleaner new seats but still the old style/decor.

Patton

I saw this for the first time as a kid on a Naval Air Station theater in Japan, surrounded by sailors and crayon eaters, the same as Top Gun. They always played the national anthem before every movie, and then to have that opening of Patton. Epic, even without that crowd.

My “epic” weekend binge recommendation:

Saturday — Ten Commandments; Ben-Hur; Lawrence of Arabia

Sunday — The Right Stuff; Braveheart; Gladiator

And if you still haven’t had enough, add Dances With Wolves and/or Gettysburg.

great film.. my all time fave

It fluctuates between my all time favorite and second or third place in a virtual tie with Casablanca and The Best Years of Our Lives.

Cool…I’ve been wanting to get down there when they’re showing one of the classics. I saw they’re showing L of A again Wednesday but it is right in the middle of the day.

They’ve had a good mix of classics/“older” movies since reopening. Saw The Searchers there in March. They had a Scorsese month in May and Hitchcock last month.
