What’s your best guess on how the Turkey was actually prepared? Oven at 450 for 8 hours in a cheesecloth soaked in water to keep the skin from being burnt?

I never thought about this until the last few years. Reality is they had to shoot it where there was snow and there are fir trees. The best advice is to not overanalyze movies that star Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, John Candy, etc. They play pretty loose with accuracy.

True and it looks like they started production on March 27th, that eliminates the Midwest. Too late to guarantee snow cover

Where did they go to cut down the tree? They were in legit mountains. There is nothing like that near Chicago.
That's part of the joke. That Clark dragged his family out to the middle of nowhere to get the tree. I had a dad like this. Loooong trips to nowhere.

Cousin Eddie offers to buy the burned up couch even though he just helped Clark set it out by the curb.
Either this is a plot hole or Eddie thinks Clark is keeping the couch but he's going to leave it outside to sit on by the road.
I like to think it's the latter.
Also I think Cousin Eddie is hinting that he had an affair with the Yak Woman.

It's possibly been discussed before but this tweet got me thinking.
How much was Clark actually expecting from his Christmas bonus anyway?
Google says the average cost to install an in ground pool in 1989 was between $16,000 and $24,000. Let's go with the high end and say it was gonna cost $25,000.
That's obviously a decent chunk of change in 1989 but Clark was basically acting like it would completely destroy the family's finances if his bonus didn't come through.
If your family finances are stretched so thin, is putting in a pool really a good idea?
And why would finances be streched so thin, Clark lives in an extremely large expensive house in an upscale Chicago suburb. Outward appearances are that he's quite well off, unless maybe he's house poor?

Russ watches ending of IAWL (every time a bell rings.....) - 1st easter egg
Clark "fixes" the newell post with a chainsaw - 2nd easter egg to IAWL
I believe Chevy said in an interview that there was a 3rd ode to IAWL but can't recall what it was. Anyone?

He didn’t offer to buy it…he said he would fumigate it and keep it, then asked Clark how much it set him back

My biggest issue is why didn’t his buddy Bill at work call him and tell him they were getting Jelly instead if a bonus?
He told Clark “company messenger dropped something at the house”. That was days before Clark got his subscription

My initial response was that the bad storm put the phones out of service. Then, I realized that was a different Overanalyze thread.

The grandmas are decorating a gingerbread house, and the grandpas are sleeping, but what damn parade is on tv?
Hahaha, it's not Christmas yet, but the parade is on. The commentator says something like, "Those are some big nuts."
I've always wondered. I love this damn movie
I posted this 2 years ago in this thread.
