A more recent one is definitely Margot Robbie as Barbie. After seeing her in Wolf of Wall Street, she definitely physically fit the role.

Helen Mirren as The Queen

It’s great in hindsight but there was a fair amount of “are we sure?” about RDJ when he was cast.

Similar with Heath Ledger as Joker. A little bit of WTF but then he was great.

I think as a result that doesn’t make either one “obvious”, more so a surprise casting that worked out.

Was a great choice but was probably a risk considering his past and was basically his comeback role.

IMO Elijah Wood as Frodo was pretty damn spot on.

I don't think she looks anything like the Barbie doll.

Already touched on but terrible example.

Fun fact Dougray Scott was supposed to have the role but chose to be the bad guy in MI2 instead and it went over schedule so they brought in Hugh Jackman

Wild to think what would have been.

Was Jackman really cast as Wolverine off of his work in Australia?

The original X-Men was not a tent pole movie and only had a moderate budget. They spent all their "star money" on Professor X and Magneto.
