Kinda, sorta of done with Alien revival.

I mean, 1979 was a long time ago.

This looks like just an amped up horror scares rehash of the original.

There's nothing new under the sun....even in space.

I kind of sort of agree I'm in a weird place with the Alien Franchise. The original 3 are some of my favorite movies and it has a rich universe. And I'm excited for this, but this just seems like a fresh take on the 1979 Alien and not something new or different or a different take on the 1979 Alien.

Seems like it could just be The Force Awakesn version of Alien. I really hope I'm wrong becasue I like the directors previous work and this looks solid. I just dont know where they can go from here with the material

I didn't learn my lesson after Prometheus, but I did learn my lesson after Covenant. Pass. I don't even care if people love it. It's built on a foundation of total crap.

I liked the whole idea of Prometheus. I hated the “purportedly smart people conveniently making irrationally dumb decisions that lead to horrible death” plot contrivances.

I liked the idea from Covenant of David as this evil android scientist somewhere out there in the galaxy engineering xenomorphs to kill us all horribly (and the weird philosophical questions that raises). I hated that they only seemed to have thought of that premise after Prometheus and basically rendered the whole concept of engineers irrelevant (on top of more “smart people doing conveniently dumb shite”)

Seriously though Ridley tried to broaden the scope of the story in Prometheus and Covenant and I would've liked to seen him finish it.

That's more of what i was talking about.
I know a lot of people didn't like Prometheus, and more didn't like Convenant, but i enjoyed them both and the story that went with them.
This doesn't look like it has anythign to do with that, and it's strictly a standalone horror film with some aliens.

Noah Hawley's upcoming Alien series on FX may do just that..at least that's what I'm hoping.

Alverez mentioned in a recent interview:
quote:

“I love all of those movies,” Álvarez told The Hollywood Reporter. “I didn’t want to omit or ignore any of them when it comes to connections at a story level, character level, technology level and creature level. There’s always connections from Alien to Alien: Covenant.”

He is also a huge fan of Alien Isolation. It actually inspired him to want to write another story in this universe. So how much connective tissue will be there b/t this film and the "David" saga IDK. Trailers often give away too much plot. This one set the mood just right for me but I do hope the plot give us fans of Prometheus and Covenant something to chew on.

That scene with the light being used to see the chest buster looks all kinda of fricked hoping this movie doesn’t end being another Covenant

That was a good trailer.

It's better than the first two. The call back to the original with the tag line was kind of cool, although just saying " in space no one can hear you" doesn't hit the same way. This appears to be more of a reimagining of the original than anything else.

Apparently the director played Alien Isolation and wanted to make it like that which by the way if you haven’t played it I highly recommend it

This is where I'm at with it. I loved the Engineers story of Prometheus...and the ending with Elizabeth and David's head off to find their home planet. This is the story I want explored...

and then Covenant was a giant fart in the wind. Stupid scientists do stupid things and then it's all over. The story went no-fricking-where. Hated it.

But I will still plunk down my money, because I think there's still hope for it.

It would've probably been really stupid like the xenomorph's backstory.

Same. One of the most polarizing threads on the MTV board. You either liked it or hated it.

a horror type film of a diverse cast just trying to survive.

I mean, that's the strength of the Alien franchise. I don't hate Aliens, but the bread and butter is a bunch of people trying to survive vs an unstoppable killing machine.

It's a franchise made for what this movie looks like, a small group of people trapped with an alien. That's not a guarantee it will be good, but definitely not a bad setup for an Alien movie.

I love the Alien universe, just got done rewatching 1 and 2. But it needs a fresh setting, we’ve seen what appears to be plot of Romulus already.

Prometheus tried valiantly, but had some retarded moments.

I want a different setting. Aliens land in a remote Wyoming town or something due to a bad Weyland-Yutani drop ship going wrong, just tossing shite out. Idk, but the space ship with an Alien picking them off one by one has been done. Take it back in time or something like Prey did.

This looks like the same old same old to me

I wanted to like the trailer, but a group of angsty teens taking out an Alien just doesn't seem like a fun movie to me.

Another comparison that may be akin....and genre specific....The Thing (2011)....this is what this new Alien is going to probably be....and fall just as flat....because you can't recreate greatness....facsimiles never work, no matter how modern you dress them up.
