**Spoilers for Clone Wars**
As mentioned above, his extreme hatred for Obi-Wan and the dark side kept him alive. His brother, Savage Opress, then goes and finds him. Then, his mother, Mother Talzin, who is basically the leader of Dathomir (where he is from) and the head of the Dathomirian Nightsisters (witches) is able to heal him and give him mechanical legs. He and his brother then go on a tear trying to gain power with the goal of killing Kenobi (and eventually the goal of killing Sidious). That's the bare-bones, nutshell explanation.

Maul somehow surviving is one of the dumbest things in Star Wars history, which I know is a big statement

He is a great addition to Clone Wars and Rebels, so I’m glad he survived.

After the events of Revenge of the Sith, it looks as though Obi-Wan Kenobi is in a bad place. His fellow Jedi have been hunted and killed, and those who survived were driven into hiding.
But it could have been a lot worse.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the original Obi-Wan Kenobi scripts were scrapped because they were just too bleak.
“We're looking, ultimately, to make a hopeful, uplifting story,” she explained. “It's tricky when you're starting with a character in the state that Obi-Wan would be in coming off of Revenge of the Sith. That's a pretty bleak period of time. You can't just wave the magic wand with any writer and arrive at a story that necessarily reflects what you want to feel.”
Worried about the direction of the upcoming series, Kennedy decided to halt production in favor of a rewrite.

Those scripts were probably masterpieces

Sure, but bringing him back after the way he was killed undermines the entire universe. It’s now a cartoon where Wil E Coyote can fall down the chute in two pieces but somehow survive. It lowers the stakes for everything else that comes after because we now anyone can and will come back.

Did you happen to notice what Anakin Skywalker survived? Or Emperor Palpatine? Maul's survival is pretty mild. We're talking about a universe with super advanced technologies and magic powers. Remember a line from the first movie: "He's more machine than man now."
I never watched the cartoons so I was surprised by Maul in Solo, but it's consistent with the universe.

Well, that makes me less hopeful about the series. Things are supposed to be bleak during this time. The rest of the saga is what lifts things out of the darkness. There's no reason to sugarcoat what is happening during this time and what Obi-Wan is dealing with.

I've been thinking some more about the potential Obi-wan vs. Darth Vader showdown we may see in this series and how it could be possible. If they do face off, I think they'll have to fight somewhere other than Tatooine.
We all know what Vader says to Obi-Wan in A New Hope when Vader tells Obi-Wan that he has been waiting for him. This implies they haven't faced off in a long time. It still, theoretically, leaves room for them to have faced off since ROTS, though. BUT, this isn't the only time in Star Wars canon that Vader implies that he hasn't seen Obi-Wan and has no idea where Obi-Wan is. In Rebels, after Vader discovers that Ahsoka is alive, he talks to Sidious over hologram. He tells Sidious that she is alive, and Sidious suggests that she could lead them to other remaining Jedi. Vader then asks, "such as Kenobi?" to which Sidious replies, "Perhaps, if he lives." That indicates that during the time of Rebels, Sidious and Vader have no idea as to where Obi-Wan is or if he is even alive anymore.
The Obi-Wan series is supposed to take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. Rebels is approximately 14-15 years after ROTS. That means that if Vader and Obi-Wan do fight in the Obi-Wan series, there is a maximum time of approximately 5 years that could have passed between then and the time of Rebels. If Vader finds Obi-Wan during the Obi-Wan series, then this means he must have lost him again in that 5 year period before Rebels. So, it would be basically impossible for Vader to have found Obi-Wan on Tatooine, and possibly fought Obi-Wan there, and then Obi-Wan remain on Tatooine. Thus, I think that Darth Vader and Obi-Wan either won't encounter each other directly in the Obi-Wan series, or they'll encounter each other somewhere other than Tatooine (maybe the other planet that appears in the trailer).

Inquisitors would make more sense if you’d watched Rebels too. Dark side force wielders (some former Jedi, though not Sith) who serve the Empire by hunting down Jedi who survived Order 66.
What should be added to this is that most of these jedi that fell to become inquisitors did so to live. Also, Palpatine took great pleasure in forcing Jedi to embrace the dark side and then just killed many of them once they did so. Inquisitors were relatively weak in the force or weak in the dark side of the force. Asoka handles inquisitors with very little trouble.

You just don’t get it. Obi-Wan’s journey after ROTS was actually a happy time. We’re all supposed to see the bright side of him being in exile while all his friends are getting slaughtered around the galaxy.
Episode IV’s actual title is A New(er) Hope. Kathleen Kennedy is a creative genius.

The concept art of them fighting was on Mustafar. I wouldnt doubt if the rematch was there. Or perhaps at fortress inquisitorius

This show sounds like a clusterfrick.
Should have just given us a dark AF Vader show hunting down remnants of the Jedi Order with the Inquisitors.

Wouldn't doubt if this show is on it's way at some point, especially if Vader and the Inquisitors are well received.

I don’t mind this. You can’t explain a Maul/Kenobi confrontation between Order 66 and Rebels. Rebels handled it perfectly.
