Simon Cowell, the reality TV star, polished Jack Nicholson's axe between takes for some of the most famous scenes in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film The Shining. Cowell was a teenager living near the Elstree studio where the film was made and worked as an on-set runner in 1980. His half-brother, Tony Cowell, said that Simon was proud of his polishing skills and that the axe was so shiny you could see your face in it.
