The MCU and Star Wars are not the same.

They very easily could have been. That's the point.

Well, yes and... NO.

Both are owned by Disney now, though not developed by them.
Both are "cool" and beloved by many, especially guys, for action and adventure.

Star Wars at it's best is a struggle against a specific villain (Vader and the Emperor), just like Flash Gordon is really the struggle against Ming the Merciless.

Superheroes, on the other hand, are designed to stay in constant conflicts. The hero is the focus, not the struggle against the villain. Marvel is going to be fine as long as we maintain recognizable and likable heroes.

Star Wars is lost right now, because the sequels are. TFA did well for nostalgic purposes (yay a new movie, and we sort of get the old heroes); but that wore off fast. I really don't know what's going on yet, and it's been 2 films. That should have been established in the first 10 minutes. Don't know who's fighting whom, don't really have a reason to pull for anyone, against anyone else. Snoke SEEMED like a good villain, gone now. We don't have any heroes worth a flip. Before you say Rey- why is she even in this? Only because Kylo wants her involved; otherwise she'd just wander off and leave the entire conflict to finish itself off. She's not tied to the Resistance, she's just casually met them.

Solo could have been a solid piece, if the focus of the franchise would be filling in the blanks of the OT. But the sequels taint everything... there is no purpose to join these films together, other than to say character X was in this film 50 yrs before the other one.

Disney / Marvel used the stories from the comics to framework their movies.

Disney / StarWars eliminated the EU and decided to just wing it.

I just got out of Solo, having gone in with that focus myself, and really enjoyed it. I did the same with Rogue One and enjoyed that one even more. I’m of the age to have seen the OT in theaters during my teens, and the stand alone movies seem to go well with the originals, giving me that same fun and excitement while watching, to a certain extent.

The prequels and sequels just haven’t done anything for me other than fulfill the tradition of seeing the Star Wars films with my kids (which that in itself brings the most enjoyment). IMO they just seem foreign to the OT.

It is strange. They deftly weave lots of pieces of Marvel together to create the MCU. A little old Cap. A little Ultimate Thor. A completely redesigned Scarlet Witch. A retooled Civil War story. Etc. And it works. They understood that fandom has attachments (which yields limitations), but flexibility, if you pay homage correctly, and pay a little fan service here and there.

And man have they whiffed on Star Wars.

Combine this with decimating all of the iconic characters from the OT. . .and many from TFA and you have flat nailed it.

I thought TFA set up nicely, even if it was a bit derivative. Rian Johnson took that setup, and was like "whatever, frick Star Wars". That is the key reason for Solo having a disappointing box office return.

It may be a good flick, but I refuse to watch SW until I feel it is on a track that I, as a die-hard fan, can stomach.

Flying Leia, and Luke dying like a pathetic little bitch. What character is left that I can be concerned with the well-being of? Rey? Daisy Ridley doesn't even seem to care about being in the movie based on her Kristen Stewart School of Acting exhibition.

It's interesting that Cap can basically reject the shield, and it's in character, makes sense, and feels right, while at the same time serving the arcs involved well. And that is in a "new" Civil War story.

On the flip side, Luke tossing aside the saber was basically an insult to fans.

That scene boggles the mind. I can't understand how anyone involved could think that was a good idea

Omg. You are so totally right. Everyone should have known this was coming. Too bad you aren’t running a major studio. You certainly wouldn’t have avoided the next two weekends after Solo like they did expecting it to be a huge summer hit. Idiots!!!1!! Hahahahah. Lmbo.

Holy. shite. Your last 180 posts have been nothing but defending Solo on the movie board for 2 weeks. Do you have specific alters for specific trolls? Upvoting yourself and downvoting everyone else with each one?

Psycho.

Literally, the moment you come online and post, I get 5 downvotes in succession. And you get upvotes. And no one has posted agreeing with you or disagreeing with me. You are so pathetic.
