Let us know how she liked it. These two shows are a bit different even though they tackle the same subject matter.

She tunes out the political subtones which drive me nuts. We finished 911 Los Angeles and it was decent. The Austin show is just silly its trying so hard to be PC.

IMO, there is zero issue with the technology because it’s a period piece.

I never really got the "technology is dated" argument. I'm not expecting iPhones when when I watch The Wire for the same reason I don't expect them in Deadwood, they weren't around at the time.

Not only that but the pagers are key element to the plot and how the cops get a foot in the door.

My top 5-10 characters change every re-watch. However Bodie and Slim Charles are always in it.

As long as Nick's old lady's boobs are consistently in your top ten, then all is right with the world. She belongs on the Mount Rushmore of TV show boobs.

Did OP ever give The Wire a shot? I'm interested to see someone making their way through it for the first time.

I powered through it based on this board. It took me 3 times to get through the first series. Season 2 was ok. I'm not fond of it. The characters are great but the last season really put me off. I won't ever re-watch it.

I think we made it through about 3 and were bored to tears. I cannot understand how this is so popular.

Literally the technology they had at the time. Part of the narrative. Good grief.

Godfather didn't have too much tech at the time but it's still good.

I'm watching it for the first time. I just started season 2. It's alright. I'll stick with it for awhile.

Just know that season 2 is a killer for most at the time because it’s so different than season one, but if you can get past that it’s amazing. Many think it’s one of the best seasons after rewatching.

Go back to the opening scene with Snot Buggie and go back to Season 2. And do it again between each remaining season.

I watched it about two years ago. Both McNulty and Bunk are two of my favorite characters ever. Love how all the he black guys know the words and can sing along to the Irish drinking songs!

But yes it’s really dated. At the time it came out, there had never been anything like it. It’s worth a watch.

Actually it’s not a period piece, a period piece is something set in the past, Madmen and The Americans are period pieces. it was a contemporary show when it was released 25 years ago.

But yes complaints about dated technology are silly. Cell phones existed but they used pagers for a reason
