Shocks me this guy was a leading man for a good 25 years with directors willing to play camera tricks with his height:

He also wasn't a Navy fighter pilot in Top Gun. Crazy they lied to us like that.

I was pretty close to TC a few weeks ago and he didn't seem that short. But looking back at the pics, his shoes had some thick arse heels. He certainly commands a room with his presence and engagement, so you can see his charm, even over really famous fellow actors.

RDJ is not really that sort IRL. Somebody that really surprised was Sam Rockwell when we did WL. He is super tiny.

The true giants are Brendan Fraser, Thor and Vince Vaughn. Legit 6'4" +

How many 5'3"-5'6" adult grown men do y'all actually know?

Think about it and the number is probably extremely low. Yet Hollywood and car racing are full of them.

A ton of actors are in the 5'7 - 5'9 range.

We were watching the hunger games recently, and that Hutcherson actor is very short.

I met Vincent D'Onofrio when they were shooting Magnificent 7 near here and was happy to meet a Hollywood actor who was as tall as I am. I go to a lot of comic conventions and it's a little depressing when you meet a star and they turn out to be Alan Ladd.

That's hilarious. Gotta be embarrassing on set during that scene.

I worked season 2 of TK and Stallone was surprisingly shorter than me (I'm 6' on the money). Stone must be a giant.

Can confirm Vince Vaughn -- met him in New Orleans about 25 years ago at a bar owned by a mutual acquaintance (now deceased). Later ran into him with the same acquaintance him at Jazzfest. That son-of-gun is TALL.

On the other hand, back in the days when Treme on HBO, met Steve Zahn via the same acquaintance. THAT dude is pretty small... I find it funny he is playing a college football coach on Chad Powers.

Damn, really? That's pretty wild honestly. I always assumed he was a gigantic dude.

He did a couple episodes on "Two and a Half Men" where he played a single dad with a teenage daughter and a neighbor of Charlie.

The guy was huge as far as body type with a thick look from head to toe and looked very intimidating, but he was nowhere near as big as he was portrayed in "The Green Mile".

That video of actor heights was mind boggling

There were many I thought were either taller or shorter.

Yeah, Deniro listed at 5'9 1/2 is laughable.

Non-movies example:

Metallica is a bunch of short guys and an above average height guy. Hetfield is 6’1. The others are 5’7 and shorter. It helped create the image of Hetfield being larger than life on stage.

Number One having to bend down as the sets weren’t made for his 6’4” height. Picard is standing on a box

ScarJo’s sneakers with high heels inside

quote:

Another fun one is Back to the Future, there's only one shot in the first movie (might even be the entire trilogy) where you see Doc and Marty together side by side with their feet showing, and it's because they had to cover up the box MJF is stood on with the 'flames.' Otherwise, there's nearly a foot difference in height between them. That's why when they're in scenes together, one of them is nearly always sitting or Doc is moving around, or MJF is much closer to the camera.

quote:

On The X-Files, they invented a special rig for Gillian Anderson (5'3") so that she could fit in the same frame as David Duchovny (6'1") and not have to stand on a box all the time. It was called a 'Scully Box' and as you can see, it can be laid out into like a runway so they can do walk and talk scenes.
