He also gave the speech for the feature film "The Rock"

As the president. Great speech and film lads.

Another Micheal Bay film.

I didn't say that he wrote the words of the speech, but the fact that the speech is in there is his choice.

Same as the president's speech in The Rock. He really likes that sort of thing. I haven't watched the transformers movies but I would bet $10 that one of them has a similar speech: lol:

And there's like 20 writers of Armageddon

And it struck me how writing like this hardly exists in mainstream summer blockbusters anymore

Pretty sure overly sentimental hokum is still alive and well in modern blockbusters

Ok those movies were fun but let's not act like they're pinnacle of movie making. Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich were known for one thing making fun but at best decent movies.

I wonder if anyone on that roster wrote Deep Impact.

The president's speech in ID4 is easily the top speech of all time. Goosebumps. For such a silly movie its perfect.

A bunch of buddies and I went and saw this and if we had been old enough to enlist, I think we would have all gone down to the Air Force recruiter directly from the theater.

When I think of bad movies, it's one of the first that come to mind.

You're probably not wrong about modern day movies....but I would NOT hold up this pile of shite as an example.

Go with something like The Fugitive.

Because back then, artist sought to unite everyone. And the best way to do that was an over the top cheesy speech, that no matter, stirred some positivity inside of everyone.

ID4 and Armagedddon are full of cheesy cliches... but they were cliches for a reason, amd cheesy because that sort of naive positivity was seen as noble, doesn't matter who you were.

Now, artists are mainly concerned with "subverting expectations," politicizing everything and constantly badgering "the other," ie anyone with traditional or traditional adjacent values. Their entire platform is about antagonization.

That's why you'll probably never get the cheesy, feel good, everyone can relate speech again.

That’s because they don’t want Americans acting all American anymore. It’s too racist for people to handle these days. Waiving the American flag
used to be cool and now you’re a bigot white supremacist just for hanging the flag in your yard.

I think the best examples of this are WW2 movies made from 1958-1972. Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, The Longets Day, etc. Those movies included some great speeches and dialogue that showed backbone and heroism.
