I still don't understand why she was doing what she was doing. Was it to take something from her victims to allow her to live longer, was it just for the sake of being evil? I just finished it and I still don't know.

She uses the term "consumption" so the implication is that she's really old and she's doing it for the life force/to extend her life

The payoff wasn't worth the buildup. Good flick, but not earth shattering.

First several minutes of the movie, I thought it was gonna be another cheap jump scare horror film, but it didn't continue that way. I actually liked the multiple character POV. It ceased before it got too tedious. The parents are the scariest part of the movie. The mother especially is horrifying the way she walked out of the house. The slapsticky ending was unnecessary imo. It probably took the overall rating down a point for me. Overall I enjoyed it.

I thought Weapons was really solid, and one of the better horror entries lately. But that also has more to do with the lack of good recent horror perhaps.

I did like it though, and thought it did a great job with the creepy factor. But the end with the old lady running around yards and in and out of people's houses like Ferris Beuller took me WAY out of the movie. It went from "oh shite," to "oh okay," to "this is hilarious," to "no fricking way this is still going on," to "okay this is just fricking stupid."

I honestly would rate this movie much higher had she just ran out of the house and been confronted and killed by the kids there. I have absolutely no idea why anybody in charge of this movie thought it was a good idea to have her run around the neighborhood like that. It was just plain silly and ruined what I thought was an otherwise solid movie.

I also remember not particularly caring for the shifts in narratives between each person (even though it was edited fairly well).

But I do agree with this:
quote:

Modern horror, generally has a huge ending problem.

..and have been saying that for years now. Horror, and especially supernatural horror specifically, always struggles to nail the ending. My classic example of this is The Devil Inside. That movie was actually cool and really good, and then the last few minutes with how it ended it completely ruined it for me. Just so stupid and lazy.

I imagine it's because the director uses a gallon of PCP at a time

I liked it overall but.....

Spoilers

The big mystery reveal being essentially voodoo was kind of a womp womp moment. And the plot kind of drug from there. But would still recommend.

i saw all the praise being heaped upon this show and the massive hype machine behind it, plus several of my friends who i have very common movie tastes with liked it, so i watched it last spooky season

i thought it was magnificently average.

I thought that the wife said that Gladys was her great aunt, or something to that effect, even though Gladys told the principal that the mom was her baby sister.

I liked it well enough. Nothing amazing, though.

What are you talking about. They only show the aunt the entire movie and never show a clown.

Strange movie. Just finished it. I was enjoying the kids attacking the old lady at the end but when they finally got to her I was kind of surprised what they did.

Before the aunt gets there, the wife (Alex's mom) says it was her mother's sister, and that she was going to take her in because that's what her mom would do. But evidently no one had seen her for years.

I liked it enough to feel it wasn't a waste of time. Amy Madigan did a great job with her character. I can see why she is nominated for an Oscar for it.
I felt they were trying to channel some of Ruth from Ozark out of Julia Garner. Her character was meh.

My PTSD from nagging arse women already made me have it as a 3. Getting the girls hair and then proceeding to not use it and let her foil all your plans makes it a 2.

Are there any women who don't nag?
Serious question.

It was alright. Was hyped for it seeing the previews. It had its moments but overall wasn’t as good as I had hoped.
