Advice for Supporting Kid’s Interest in Music

My 2 year old is obsessed with music. He will listen to music on Alexa all day and play along on his toy guitar, drum, piano, or recorder or even just dance. He asks for music videos over any TV show or movie (current favorites are “little man ride bike” (All Downhill from Here by New Found Glory), “moon” (No Shoes on in the Coffee Shop by Hot Mulligan), and “fish” (Another Life by Motionless in White).
I love music but have never been able to pick up an instrument or carry a beat. The kid has pretty good rhythm until he gets distracted. We have him enrolled in a 2 day a week music program in the fall.
For those of you who play instruments, any advice for fostering his interest without being pushy?

Just keep doing what you're doing. He may continue to love music and want to play an instrument, or he may move on. Guide him but don't push him. At least not yet.

For now I prescribe a steady diet of classic Looney Tunes viewing. People don’t realize how much the classical soundtrack coordinates with the action on screen. You’ll be training their ear without them realizing it.

That’s a fantastic idea. Try to limit screen time viewing to low stimulation things, minus the music videos, so that can be a solid alternative.

I don’t see anything wrong with letting a kid binge watch Looney Tunes. I did.

My advice.....introduce this young baw to Rick Beato's YouTube channel.

Get them a tiny little keyboard and put little stickers with the notes on each key.
I play guitar at a low intermediate level but my son is a damn musical savant in comparison. He’s been playing keyboard/piano since 8 and can now transition from it to guitar/uke/trumpet/drums in such a way you’d think he plays all of them regularly all with no formal training.

Get him a 1950s Gibson Les Paul and let him go to work…
But seriously, good advice from the people above.

I have three boys ages 13, 15, and 18 who play music and in fact, have a band and play gigs weekly. I on the other hand, could not carry a tune in a bucket. I told my wife when the oldest was six years old that my biggest regret was not learning an instrument and I wanted to at least give our sons a chance. She started him with piano and guitar and he took it from there, he later inspired the others. We always have music playing around our house and I have explained to them the difference in not just listening, but actually hearing music. We have always encouraged them, but never have been too pushy or try to enforce our will.

Make sure they take classes to learn to read music. Also theory and harmony if possible.
