Currently I vote for Badflower.
Throwback to early 2000's pop punk and I think Just Surrender was very good but never blew up.
Somewhere in the middle is The Wonder Years being slept on, which is a travesty, especially for how beloved "The Greatest Generation" is by critics.
Locally, Meriwether never truly exploding outside of the Baton Rouge scene is wild.

Ok has the average person heard of Metallica? I’m gonna say yes.
Has the average person heard of Vampire Weekend? I’m gonna a say no. Sure they have had 3 top albums, but they certainly aren’t a household name outside of music snobs.
That’s what I was suggesting. Has the average person never heard or vaguely heard of your favorite band?
There should be a Spotify monthly listener threshold to qualify as "not popular"
Vampire Weekend has 3.5 million monthly listeners. They definitely do not qualify as "not popular"

I've been a Dream Theater fan since Images and Words came out in '92. They're popular within progressive metal circles but never really had any mainstream success. The same thing with Devin Townsend.

I saw them open for A Perfect Circle in 2011.

Dream Theater has 1.7 million followers on Spotify. Definitely not mainstream, but I would say they are popular.
They are probably the perfect dividing line.

I went by the "mainstream success" criteria, which they've never had. Pull Me Under got some play on radio and MTV but that's about it. No chart success. They've been around forever now, so they have a decent, loyal following.

I agree. They are on that very-popular within their niche, but non-mainstream line.
