quote:Don't get me wrong, the Lakers would be in a real tough spot, but the only thing I'd caution is even though it didn't work out in the end, we all, myself included, had the exact same thoughts about the Nets being dead in the water for years to come, and 4 seasons later they had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden on their team.
f this falls flat for lakers boy are they in trouble for years to come with only a couple 1st round swaps for 7 years

I don't think it makes sense for Indy actually.
It takes the ball out of Haliburton's hands which I am sure they don't want to do, adds a guy that definitely would not want to be there, etc.
And if they wanted to dump Hield and Brogdon, they could likely get picks much closer to now than 2027 and 2029...which is what a rebuilding team needs.

I understand the temperature in this thread and this board as only certain goggles can be worn, but also at the same time they are the Lakers. I hate it just as much as the next guy...just like my dislike for the Yankees in baseball....but it all comes full circle. It will happen again....and usually sooner rather than later...

People often say the same about the Knicks. Yet, here we are. It's possible to have built in advantages, and still be so poorly managed that you can't get out of your own way.

but also at the same time they are the Lakers
The title run was much more of an outlier than this season.
The similarities between Kobe aging and now Lebron aging are there too. They're following that same playbook. If they give Lebron an extension, they're screwed.
We all want the Lakers to be as bad as possible but it's probably actually best for the Pels for Lebron to be about as good next season as he was this season, so the Lakers can fall into the trap if overpaying him like they did Kobe.

My focus isn’t on LeBron as much as the supporting cast.
Toni will be sold off for help and Westbrick will be shipped out. They handle this poorly and they handicap themselves for years regardless of LeBron staying.

BTW I’ve been in the LA area since Wednesday (Ventura & Santa Barbara). Sitting in a bar right now outside waiting to head to LAX
I wore my pels cap around all week and tried to mess with any lakers fans I saw. I can report that nobody here cares about the lakers unless they are winning LOL

Reggie Miller on the Lakers
Reggie Miller is taking a lot of shots at the Lakers and making good points about how bush league the whole thing has been of blaming Vogel and Westbrook for everything when Pelinka, Jeannie Buss, and LeBron are far more responsible.
He also called out Toni and said he needs to be able to be on the court 72-75 games with LeBron for this to work. He also said they should consider trading Toni to blow things up, a la OKC, and stockpile picks for a rebuild.

Westbrook says he “was never given a fair chance to be who I needed to be to help this team.”
He also expressed some dissatisfaction with Vogel:

Laker sources are claiming that Vogel told the team something and Westbrook straight contradicted him in front of everyone.
IIRC, Vogel said “If you catch a defensive board, you can bring it up court.”
Westbrook got shitty and insisted the ball run through him because he is the point.
Selective leaks I am sure but that sounds very believable.

As it stands, I'm not sure what Anthony Davis can get back, so gambling on his health may be the smarter decision.
Now its obvious getting rid of Westbrook is important but figuring out the return on role players will be interesting

I don’t think Toni brings much back unless Rich Paul pressures a team to trade with the Lakers again.
The problem for the Lakers is that the only assets they have are LeBron and Toni and we know LeBron ain’t leaving unless he wants out. So improving the team means moving Toni.

The only other thought is Simmons. A healthy Toni with Durant and kyrie would actually be scary

What pressure can he apply? You can threaten to leave, but threatening to come is something only SirWinston's wife dreads.
