LeBron James is considering playing out his current contract with the Los Angeles Lakers rather than sign the two-year, $97.1 million extension available to him this offseason, according to sources that spoke with Sam Amick of The Athletic.
I want Lebron being almost 40 years old and making $50mil a year with the Lakers.

He isn’t signing the extension in part because I think he can lock in a higher contract amount if he waits.
It runs the risk he bolts and leaves the Lakers with cap space, but this also assumes there will be teams with cap space in 2023.

Yeah, I would prefer that the re-signs for a gajillion dollars. His defense isn't going to get any better. His injuries aren't going to become more infrequent.

From Spotrac -
As of this second, teams with 2023-2024 cap space as of now are Orlando and Detroit.
Projected cap space is another matter but it means at least $40m+ to get LeBron. That means Houston, Detroit, San Antonio, OKC, Memphis, Cleveland, Minny, Orlando, the Knicks, Portland, Indy, Lake Show, Hornets, Bulls, Wizards, Kings.
Seems like a lot but LeBron won’t consider about 3/4 of those markets and a lot of these teams will tie up long term cap space via free agency or trades this offseason.

"When I first got here, I felt I was never given the fair chance just to be who I needed to be to help this team." Westbrook told reporters, mentioning preconceived notions as a major factor. "From top to bottom, just every aspect, because what I bring to an organization is not just basketball. "I never felt like, coming in, I had a fair chance on the basketball front, on any front."
Man sounds like late year AI, it's almost uncanny.
Instead of accepting he needs to change his game and he can't be the player, in the role he was 10 years ago, he blames everyone but himself and I fully expect Russ to end up leaving a ton of money on the table out of ego and pride because he will refuse to come off the bench or play a diminished role that doesn't call for him to take 18 shots a game, dribble the air out of the basketball, and tell himself he is too important offensively to play locked-in defense.

Considering how much money Westbrick has made in his career, I think he will be fine if he isn’t spending baller money in excess of his income like AI did.

still gotta love Lebron "I'm not going anywhere ever again" James possibly going to another new home. Would be funny if he tries to go back to Cleveland, they have the money, and they say no
...sigh a man can dream

I'm sure, but Westbrook absolutely has a path open to him to stay in the league and be an elite 6th man on good teams if he focuses on just attacking second units/cutting off ball, and using his size/strength to make an effort defensively. Using his passing to set up his teammates for success instead of stat padding and looking to get his.
....But he will inevitably refuse to adjust his game from how he played as a 22 year old, like he did with LA, and it's only going to get uglier and make him look more and more detached from reality.
Would not shock me if next year is his final year unless someone in desperate straights throws him a 1 year deal to start out of necessity(cause he wont accept any less of a role I bet).

He may not make it to this season.
Most teams trading for him would buy him out and all the bullshite out of LA cuts his chances of finding a role somewhere considerably.

Wouldn't shock me either.
I truly think he's basically to the point where it's gonna take a win now team that loses their PG all season, in desperation mode, to be willing to meet Westbrook on Westbrook's terms(starter, playing "his" game).
And fewer and fewer organizations truly seem to be that shortsighted these days, so I could definitely see a buy out situation and Westbrook just sort of fading into the ether, not even playing next season.

Other possibility is a team that wants to tank without outright saying it could sign him.
Him being himself probably costs you as many games or more than he wins simply due to turnovers / inefficient shooting.

It's possible, though it seems the league has largely moved toward, if you are tanking, use the season to give reps to young guys and potential G-League prospects over letting aging out vets have their twilight stat padding.
But either way, what I think these points are both indicative of is that there are very few ways to imagine Westbrook getting to be Westbrook going forward, and if he's not willing to budge, his time in the league is gonna be ending soon

Hilarious part will be watching John Wall play from a wheelchair after Russ has shot himself out of the league.

Amazingly, the Lakers’ decline to 19.4 WAR per 82 games this season leaves them worse off now than they were at the end of the 2017-18 season (24.7 WAR per 82), the year before they added James. In essence, all of the gains Los Angeles made in WAR during the immediate lead-up to its 2020 championship have since been lost — and then some. The question, then, is how do the Lakers get themselves out of this mess? The answer is … well, there might not be one.

They wanted to win another title. They got it. Now they got to pay the piper.
And that is going to be a very painful bill to pay.

shite.
TBH the Lakers are probably significantly worse with 50 million worth of LeBron on their roster. I want LeBron on the Lakers for as long as possible lol

Can we trade them the 2nd we use on Bronnie for cash considerations?

It’s classic LeBron posturing in an attempt to get the Lakers to bend to his will this off-season and make moves that he wants.
