Let's put into perspective on how good this deal is. It's basically averages out to a 4 year MLE type of deal.

How so? He was under contract for 1.8. We just gave him money.

So happy for Herb.

Great for him and a steal for the Pels. Willie’s boy is locked up.

Well deserved. He will earn every cent of that contract too. He might be the best on ball defender in the NBA. Guys like that are vital to put with scorers like Zion and Ingram. Trey will be next but he’s going to get a huge bag. If we went to play with this team today we would be a top 5 team in the west. We have to find a cheap backup center to fill out the bench with EJ Liddell and Jordan Hawkins. We will have to be dirt cheap with the bottom 1/3rd of the roster. I would actually see if Jaxon wanted to sign a 1 year deal to be that agile backup big man with Nance and then he can hopefully hit free agency again next year with better tape out there on him.

We discussed it yesterday.

Savings over these 4 years. Plus you have to factor paying Herb or someone else in year 5, the savings is pretty large once you do that

But you leaving out year 5 when he would have been under contract with us for around 14.5. We will have to pay him or his replacement that year the way we are doing it now. Think he will sign for that amount when his contract is up in 4 years? Think we can find his replacement for that amount in 5 years?

Is it 4/90 or 4/72? Someone gave bad info yesterday then.

Technically in another year you’d have full Bird Rights and give him up to the Max. Sign him this year and you can claim the system limits you because it does. Next year his market price would be the limit.

I'm conflicted on this. I like Jones and he deserves to get paid.

But this is starter/top 5 mpg money. You can't be a bench player making 13M+ a year. He is a starter now, but it's going to come down to him or Murphy. Only one can start/finish, unless we move one of Ingram/Zion (I'm not opposed)..

Did you not some of the contracts handed out today?

Reid 3/42
Rui 3/51
Coby 3/40

All of those guys are bench players. Herb is def going to be the starter for us. I don’t see why it would change.

It’s not “starter” money, it’s MLE money which like Josh Hart level starter money.

Why not both?

CJ
Ingram
Herb
Trey
Z

you're small but you can switch 2-5 if Zions defense right before his hamstring is any indication that he'll be average to good. The warriors won titles doing this.

Agreed. Bam is 6’9 and he is the starting center for the Heats.

There aren’t many special centers that you really need to defend.

Could we not have matched other teams offers at the end of next season or not?

Either way the pels saved a boat load of cash here.
