There are also different qualities of 1sts.
A likely lottery first is one thing.
Getting the picks from Denver, Boston, Milwaukee, etc which will be at the end of the first? Less so.

Which honestly for Griffin is making the Jrue Holiday trade not look so great. Pretty crappy firsts in all honesty. Lets see how that 2027 unprotected first plays out.

I’m talking immediate firsts, not down the road ones.
We gambled on the Lakers having issues after we tied up their picks for years and it worked to the point where we got Dyson from it.
The Bucks? It was a good gamble at the time. If Jrue doesn’t end up in Milwaukee and the Bucks don’t win the chip, Giannis forces his way out and those picks are worth a ton.

But its not a good gamble in my opinion because you made their team better and they did win the championship. I think Griff wanted to send Jrue to a contender- just to do right by him. Which I get but the 2025 pick is garbage now, so are likely the swaps, and now it just depends on the 2027 pick.

I mean at the time Giannis hadn't signed an extension with the bucks. They were a Kevin Durant toenail away from losing in the 2nd round and not winning the finals.
Yeah in hindsight it doesn't look great but at the time it was a worthy gamble and I can't really fault Griffin on that. I probably would have made that same gamble.
Clearly it wasn't the dumbest logic considering the Blazer pretty much just made the same exact gamble trading dame to the bucks. Now they're hoping for the bucks to suck from 28-30

Bridges is a Pippen and not a Jordan, so it probably is true that other stars would want to play with him,
I see the point you're trying to make but I just want to clarify that Bridges is definitely not a Pippen when it comes to quality of player, only that he'll likely be okay with deferring to a #1 type. We're talking a guy who is a very good 3rd option and likely is not good enough to be a #2 on a championship team given his play this season, which has been good but a notch below what he did last year after the trade to Brooklyn. His offensive efficiency and usage have both fallen since last year post-ASB, and his defense has fallen a bit in Brooklyn as well.
Swapping BI + a little something for him makes some sense in the context of our team, but clearly the Nets value him more highly than what his worth actually should be if they're turning down massive offers for him.

I'm expecting a pretty quiet deadline.
Way more buyers than sellers and the shite teams don't really have older vets to offload.
Like Detroit doesn't want to deal any of its young guys. Charlotte may be a wildcard. Washington may offload Kuzma. snooze.
Brooklyn is kinda delusional. Just not seeing where the moves will be made.

I get what you guys are saying, at the moment- it didn’t seem like that bad of a deal. But unfortunately, if your Griffin you’re judged by what happens after the trade not just at the moment. I think thats how all GMs are judged. Currently, the only thing of decent value we may get back from the Holiday trade is a 2027 pick and that’s debatable depending what state the bucks will be in.

Dallas and Bucks talking about Portis for Grant Williams?
Why the frick would Milwaukee do that?

Maybe because Grant adds more defense but hes been horrendous on offense this season. If Im Bucks, I would ask for more than just Grant.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. Yea Grant defends better but they need Portis’ scoring pop off the bench because that unit sucks

If Bucks are serious about trading Portis, would really like us to explore that trade... Portis low key is a solid bench big... Dude can ball.

Griff traded Jrue to Milwaukee because thats where Jrue wanted to go.
He had better offers on the table but he did right by a player that stuck it out an extra year here to help groom the young guys.

Chicago really thinks Lavine is worth something huh?

The Utah Jazz are trading Simone Fonteccio to the Detroit Pistons for a 2024 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Strange move for the Pistons.

I really think they have to be flipping him for something else. I forget the trade rules, but can he be aggregated in another deal?
Posted on 2/7/24 at 12:07 pm to supe12sta12z
Actually, the more I think about it...the more it opens up the possibility of trading Bojan. Could see Fontecchio has a cheaper replacement.
Posted on 2/7/24 at 12:08 pm to BallHawk
Kevin Knox and the draft rights to Gabriele Pocada are also in the deal for Fontecchio.
