We'll be a tax team soon enough, no need to start that this year unless we were making a blockbuster trade that made us a lot better.

I’m sorry this is what you sell your fans when you will never go into the tax. I don’t think this team will ever go into the tax and the teams history has clearly shown that.

The first-round pick will be the least favorable of OKC/Clippers/Rockets/Jazz in 2024, sources tell ESPN.

That pick is going to be LATE in the first at this rate… OKC and Clip Show are at the top of the west.

They are going to give BI a max, and Trey a nice contract. If they want to keep competeing, they'll need quality role players and it'll be extremely difficult to not be a tax team at that time, even with a rising luxury tax line.
You can't have 4 guys making $150M and not be a tax team. If you're theory is correct, then one of those 4 are getting traded in the next year for basically a salary dump, and that's just not something i'd expect to happen.

I don’t think there gonna be any big moves. Just moves around the margins for teams

not it isn't.
It was a couple hundred thousand dollars short of being a legal trade,

It's a moot point, but for my education, please explain where I'm wrong. Kira Lewis makes 5.7 million. The Pelicans are, and would remain, below the first apron, so they can take back 7.5 million more than they send out in this trade. Kelly Olynyk makes 12.2 million.
5.7 + 7.5 > 12.2

They are still over the cap as of now for next season.

Losing Bertans only gains them a small amount of cap space (next year was only partially guaranteed).

Personally if they’re not close to making the nba finals- I think honestly one of them does get traded or dumped. The only way I see this team even attempting to get into the tax if this team literally goes to the nba finals.

5.7 + 7.5 > 12.2

it's not $7.5. It's 200% of Kira's salary of $5.7M + $250k, so around $11.6M is what we could have taken back.

and that's for teams that are under the tax. We weren't under the tax, so trading Kira as a tax team means we could only take back 110% of his outgoing salary.

b/c we moved Kira and got under the tax, it actually allows us to take back much more salary than we send out if we were to do a deal today. So we are actually in a better position to make deals with him already gone, than if he were still here.

Gafford is someone Griff should have been targeting with Nance and a draft pick.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about this. It's 200% of outgoing salary for deals up to 7.5 million. It's outgoing salary plus 7.5 million for deals between 7.5 million and 29 million. And these levels apply to teams under the first apron, not the luxury tax.

Yep, I've been wanting that exact deal for a while.

Now Dallas has a center rotation of Lively and Gafford with Luka throwing lobs to them
