We didn’t guarantee his 6mil dollar contract to not play him
We didn't play him last season when we could have either, and this was after we picked up that option for this season as well.

There is zero chance Kira gets regular rotation minutes on a healthy Pels team. There's just no pathway to this.

It's one thing to say a guy will get 15-20 minutes, its' another thing to try and show will lose those minutes. There's only a finite number of minutes, and we have a strong 9 man base, that's before adding Hawkins/Naji/Liddell. There is just no minutes for Kira.

Are we going to sit him after he finally got back from a 1 year injury and still has unknowns?

The answer to all of these is yes, because there is no chance Kira is a regular rotation player if we're healthy. There are 9 stone cold locks ahead of him, and likely 12 dudes ahead of him.

And he's absolutely the 4th-string point guard. And the NBA may be somewhat positionless these days, but Kira's too short to play with CJ or Jose. The minutes do not exist.

I think it’s much more likely that the option was picked up as potential outgoing salary in a trade, than it was because they plan on him being in the rotation this season.

Yea, agreed, like we did with Darius Miller back in the day.

Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to pick up his option before last season then proceed to not really play him for the next 2 seasons. But that is what is going to happen, he won't be a regular rotation dude barring injuries.

We could have also just misjudged the market, assuming we could always at least get back a 2nd for him, but 2nds have jumped in value so now there isn't much we can get back for him at this point.

A healthy Kira will get minutes until he is traded.
If he plays like shite then yeah obviously he gets benched.

But he’s going to get some minutes and if he plays well then they won’t just disappear.

Even if you take out potential future injuries we still have no need to play CJ, Nance, etcc 30+ minutes with solid backup options.

No point in arguing we can just wait and see. If I’m wrong then I’ll admit it. If I’m right I’ll pat my self on the back and move on.

I won’t die on a hill defending him blindly

CJ is definitely playing 30+ minutes. Not only will Kira struggle to get minutes, but if we are healthy I think Dyson's minutes will be fairly limited, too. Once BI/Z etc get hurt I think Dyson gets 20 minutes per game, though.

Like I said, he'll get 7 minutes here, then after a few DNPs, 11 minutes there.

He won't be in the rotation, I have no clue why anyone would think that, there's no chance that happens.

There is zero chance CJ plays under 30mpg.

I think you may be discussing what you want to happen or think should happen but you're framing it as what will happen.

We can wait and see like you said, but we really don't need to. CJ will play over 30mpg and Kira will not be in the regular rotation if we're healthy. There's no need to wait on that, those are 2 things we know for sure 100% right now.

Dyson/Hawkins and even Naji will be battling for the last minutes, but I think Dyson to start at least will be safe getting minutes.

you do realize that we guaranteed him this money 1 year ago, not just now.
and the answer is yes, we are not going to play him b/c there are no minutes for him to play b/c there's 11-12 players on this team that deserve minutes over him.

He is a salary filler. No one is trading for him and giving us anything. He has no worth in a trade, and playing him isn't going to up that value.

Are we going to sit him after he finally got back from a 1 year injury and still has unknowns?

He tore his ACL in December of 2021. It'll be almost 2 years since the injury by the time the season starts. He started playing games on December 1st of 2022, which seems like a very long ACL recovery time period considering the advances in that surgery recently. There's NFL players that have come back in 8 months, but typically 1 year is as long as it takes. ANd of course with our medical team this very young kid took an entire year.
This is a sad excuse. He was perfectly healthy at the end of this season.
Jose stopped playing at game 63. Dyson was injured for 14 games before Jose's injury, so we were without 1 of them for 34 straight games to end the season. Kira had 14 months of recovery time when Dyson went down, and had been playing for G-league and NBA games for 2 months.
Kira racked up 15 DNP's during this time.
He had 8 games where he played less than 6 minutes.
There were only 4 games during that time that he played over 12 minutes, and 3 of them were 25+ point blowouts.

HE IS NOT GOING TO PLAY AT ALL UNLESS WE HAVE MULTIPLE INJURIES.
