I don't get it either unless 3-4 guys make massive leaps in 3pt shooting.

They were dead last in the league in 3pt% last year. Yikes.

This rockets love is nuts lol

They have one good NBA player in Sengun. Everyone else is average to below average at this point

Jalen Green, Jabari smith, etc. are not winning players at this point
As of last month, Jalen Green is finally able to buy beer. Jabari Smith is still a teenager. They will draft a teenager in a few months.

They’re not supposed to be good yet. Give them time to develop.

saying the process doesn't make sense. Since we drafted zion we've made win now moves and win later moves. When you straddle the fence like that you hurting the now and the later. If you draft Jax 8th start him for 100 games and find out that he sucks, otherwise trade that pick for an established center if you're trying to win now. Pick a direction and lean all the way dont just half arse it

He wasn't ready to play right away. Acquiring a vet to mentor him was the plan. The hope or goal was to have him ready by year 2 or 3 for him to make the leap to full-time starter. At the time it was a good plan. We have never been "young". We always had vets and were supposed to be poised to be competitive.

For the record, I would have leaned into the rebuild and tanked for a couple of seasons after drafting Zion. I said at the time to trade every piece (Holiday, Ingram, Ball, etc.). I knew it would take Zion time to reconstruct his body and I wanted a team he could grow with. So I get what you are saying. But in hindsight, Hayes never works out here. It's on him, he's just not a good basketball player and doesn't like he cares to be..

I’d trade the rockets future for ours to be completely honest Much better setup for future success They already have 2 future stars on the roster in Green and Sengun. They have nice role player pieces around them. And there is a high possibility one of Wemby, Scoot, or Brandon Miller will be on the team next season.

Sengun is one of my favorite players to watch. He’s also a bona fide role player. He can’t shoot finish or move his feet. And no, he’s no Jokic or Sabonis.

Green is a coin flip on whether he’s actually going to be great.

The Rockets are interesting and far healthier than the Pels, but better future? That’s easy to say when they have no expectations and the Pels have title aspirations.

I think you’re slightly underselling Sengun a bit, but otherwise I agree with everything you said.

I agree that they have potential, and that Ime is a good coach. I just disagree with the notion that the Rockets’ future > the Pels’ future given the difference in good players on the respective teams

I would agree before this season. But the Pelicans are in dangerous territory. They finished 9th and missed the playoffs while trying to win. They’re in that mediocre territory which is the worst place for an NBA team to be. Honestly.. do you think this Pelicans team has what it takes to be a perennial contender? They’ve had chances to take the next step, and they continue to disappoint. I don’t see them suddenly figuring it out.

The Rockets may continue to suck, but bottom of the league is a better position for the future than middle of the pack.

Not really(due to health only) but I'm more confident the Pels are closer to that than the Rockets core.

Getting Wemby would be the only thing that would change that for me before seeing rookies play.

Compare Sengun’s first 2 years with Sabonis’s first 4 years and get back to me

Also compare Sengun’s age 19 and 20 season to JOKIC’S age 20 season and get back to me

He is among one of the best finishers from 3-10 Ft in the entire league. And for a guy that can’t move his feet, he’s already a better shot blocker than Sabonis and Jokic and doing so with a lesser wingspan.

I won’t sit here and say he doesn’t have flaws, but he’s literally a hair away from being as good as age 26 Sabonis right now. And he looks to be on pace to be 85-90% Jokic. The only reason why he won’t reach Jokic heights is due to having 2 inches less of height and 4 inches less of wingspan. Develop the shot and he will have the exact same level of skill though.

He won’t have Tatum and Brown in Houston.

Jaylen could ask out depending on how the Celtics season ends

He was absolutely furious with the Durant/Jaylen trade rumblings before the season.
