From Shamit Dua's newsletter:
CJ McCollum, Jordan Hawkins, Matt Ryan, Herb Jones, and Jonas Valanciunas spent 5 minutes and 23 seconds together on the court against OKC. In that time, they scored 20 points. They were 4/4 from two and 3/4 from three. They sported a gargantuan offensive rating of 200.

I mean technically it's 5 3pt shooters. They're not all technically good at it but they take them.

And herb/cj/hawkins can slash as well. It's an interesting lineup offensively when Zion is on the bench

Imagine if we traded Lonzo for Lauri. Griff dropped the ball again not doing that trade.

Wasn't he always hurt back then? Not to mention he's a much better player now than he was then so it looks easy to say now we should have traded for him.

This is probably going to be our starting lineup tonight.

It's certainly fair to question not getting him if we could have.

But...there's basically zero chance we would have gotten this version of Lauri. He's the #1 option in Utah, but he was always going to be the 4th or 5th option here, so it is entirely possible he never breaks out and is still mostly the same dude he was in Chicago.

I remember that lineup and the ball moved and people moved off ball. It was nice. Then close out the game with Zion iso ball putting his head down and dribbling it off his foot and shite.

All guys who keep on moving when the ball isn't in their hand. Makes a difference

As AD and Joel (and I, frankly) have said, off ball movement makes all the difference with this team. The lineup that is most effective at that
skill will be most successful.

A lot of people at the time thought we should have made the deal. This isn’t revisionist history.

When Ball finally had the s/t, people here said “why didn’t we take the deal for LM”. Again, it was still before he broke out.

There is no guarantee that he would have developed here like what he’s become in Utah…but it’s not revisionist to say that folks didn’t want him back then.

I can go back and bump the threads, but I was beating the drum for him harder than anyone. Main factor being he can shoot his arse off, we lacked shooting from 3 at the time. And knowing Zion woukd likely be injured and he would be the perfect fill in.

Mostly those posters saying we wouldn’t get this version of him were the ones telling me he was the last person we needed at the time.

Make no mistake, a healthy Zion on the floor allows us to reach our full potential. But our ball movement looks so much better when he isn't playing.

You said a lot of words but didn't address or refute what I said.

My point still stands.

With the amount of time Zion has missed and BI, there is no way of knowing that. He woukd have been starting and playing a bunch of mins.

I think most people against ssid we didn’t need to pay that much salary for a backup or that was to much for a big that can shoot 3’s and not much else, going off memory.,

The problem with Lauri was he was Lonzo at a different position. Both were good players looking to get overpaid, and on the Pels Lauri would have become an overpaid bench player. You can’t have assumed back then all of the time BI and Zion would have missed.

https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/new-orleans-pelicans/someone-explain-why-markkanen-isnt-a-good-fit-for-us/95635199/

Proof is in the pudding.

Surprising two guys that usually know their shite were completely wrong, Bronc and Tigerinatl….

quote:

1. Horrible defender 2. Often injured 3. Is a bench player on our team 4. Will ask for a lot of money in free agency. I really like Markkanen as a player, but he doesn't fit on our team.

This was general consensus on why no one wanted him….
