Highlights. Weaver & Dumars still won’t talk about it

both Dumars and Weaver declined interview requests)
quote:
Only nine months ago, the Pelicans made one of the most aggressive — and, well, questionable — moves in recent draft history. It wasn’t just that the team’s new front office, led by longtime executives Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver, decided to send the 23rd pick and an unprotected 2026 first-rounder to the Atlanta Hawks to move up to No. 13. It was that they did so to grab Maryland forward Derik Queen, a talented but no-defense 6-foot-9 big with an iffy shooting stroke. Or, put another way: Dumars and Weaver seemingly staked their jobs on a prospect who, at best, projects as a tricky fit alongside Williamson. The Pelicans tried playing the pair together earlier this season, but the results were so disastrous — a statistical profile resembling that of the tanking Washington Wizards — that interim head coach James Borrego has essentially mothballed the combination. That the Pelicans, after a 15-41 start, have gone 10-10 since the All-Star break is, in the eyes of some members of the organization, not a coincidence.
quote:
Right now he’s a borderline All-Star who makes a lot of money,” said a Western Conference executive. “That’s the sort of player a lot of teams are now avoiding.”
quote:
Williamson understands the skepticism. But, he said, “I feel like I've shown enough this year to be able to say, like, ‘This is what it's gonna look like.’ Even when I did have an injury (he strained his hip in early December), I was projected to miss four to six weeks, and instead I was back in two and then went on a long stretch of consecutive games.”

He's the worst type of player you can have.
A pretty good player, paid like a great player.
Zion and Ingram are the same in that regard.

And another article
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/zion-williamson-gets-brutally-honest-165155669.html
Well a west coast NBA executive already said they would not trade for that contract. So I don't think we get much if anything at all. Judging by article he will not request trade. He likely stays another year..

The Duke product would prefer to remain in New Orleans, but he isn’t naïve to the business side of basketball. “New Orleans is home for me. It’s where I want to be,” Williamson said, via Yahoo Sports. “But at the end of the day, if we're going to be realistic about it, the NBA is a business. I could be traded in the offseason, or I could be traded before [next season’s] trade deadline.” “Not that I want that to happen,” he added. “But that’s just the realism of it.” It remains to be seen if the Pelicans will actually try to trade Williamson, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. It could ultimately come down to what type of return they could get for the 25-year old two-time All-Star.

It only takes 1 fool. If anybody knows this, it’s us Pels fans.

Only thing I disagree with is Zion being a borderline all-star. He's not close to one anymore.

He doesn't play with the persistent aggression that he once did. It's like he's pacing himself every game, trying not to overexert himself or risk injury.
The weird thing is that I somehow feel like he could turn the dial back up if he wanted to and if the circumstances were right (e.g. if he were actually in the playoffs).

I don't think he has another gear. Used to until this season. Hasn't shown it in big moments/doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Showing up that one time. Truly the pinnacle of his career in New Orleans.

He's clearly coasting and his goal for the season when he came back from that hammy injury was making sure he reach his 61 game benchmark to guarantee his salary. He's playing with no heart or pride. He's just out there and doesn't look motivated. Pretty much in cruise control.
Now if you compare that to his play last season when he came back from his extended Hammy injury, he was motivated to prove a point and his play was leap and bounds more aggressive than anything he's shown this year.

This quote right here:
“He’s taking the management of his body more seriously than ever before,” Trey Murphy said.
This is why it’s 7 years, no playoffs.

If tweet fails to load, click here. No NBA team is touching that contract.

quote:It's absolutely crazy that the Pels watched this season unfold and made the decision to pay Zion $42 million guaranteed next season.
We are probably stuck with him
Zion is finally playing games and has virtually no impact on winning.
We had every opportunity to ensure we could get off his contract with the no penalty for next season.
We openly chose to guarantee his contract to the tune of $42 million next season.
Just unfathomable levels of incompetence from the front office.
Off topic ish, but don't even get me started on downgrading from CJ to Poole who has more years on his contract.

I'd prefer to dump both of them. Both are extremely flawed; you can't build around either. One has an extraordinarily limited game and the other is extraordinarily limited athletically. Add to that the FACT that both are huge negatives on the defensive end. Those types of players cannot be cornerstones for a winning team; it's impossible.
DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!

Cut the guy if we can’t trade him
We chose to play him during a 30 win season and thus guarantee him $42 million next season.

I could see the Pistons getting rid of Tobias Harris for Zion. That would be a nasty team.

I think Zion can do very well on a team as the 3 or 4 option that can give big games at times.
He is not the next level player he was supposed to be, but he can be an allstar or fringe allstar.

You think Trajan Langdon is just going to bend over for him? LMAO . Langdon left here to get away from him.
