The team is 31st in passing yards per game, and is 32nd in passing attempts. He finally gets another weapon back in smith, but Smith looked lost out there and like he didn’t care. Plus, the tram gains Smith, but lost 2 of their more explosive weapons in Hill & Harris.

Anyone trying to make an accurate determination of Winston from this small sample size already had their mind made up

all true. past results are never guarantees of future results.

JW is being asked to be a very different QB than he has been in his career. He seemed (last night) to have kept the big mistakes to a minimum. However, he also missed some throws and even misread a few defenses that could have been scores.

EX: In the 4th quarter the throw to Callaway on third down was just a bad throw. Winston did not even see that there was a WR wide open for the first down on his left.
just as the third down throw to T Smith on the crossing route early in the game.

at the end of the game, the TE screen was wide open in the left flat for a TD, but JW took a sack. even the manning brothers + drew mocked JW that you just have to make that throw.

The bottom line is that with the Saints defense + JW not making mistakes + solid running game = a tough out for anyone. Tony Jones was a big of a loss as anyone IMO (including MT).

Winston seems like a genuinely nice person. He is super cringy when he tries to be the rah rah guy but he definitely hasn't shown that he is anything but a good teammate and a good person on and off the field in New Orleans.

Winston has underperformed the expectations

Its hard to live up to expectations when your coach doesn't call pass plays. I think the lack of pass plays has a lot more to do with a terrible WR corps and a stout defense than Winston.

Winston last night had a few incredible throws that were dropped. Then again he had some incredibly terrible throws that should have been easy tosses.

This right here is the issue. He's not Brees-like when it comes to making every throw every time. But when he does make the throw, our WRs have let him down.

I don't think anyone can say Winston is great or terrible until we see him with a healthy WR corps. As of now, he's playing good enough to get by but good enough doesn't win superbowls.

There is no amount of logic in your post. Winston has the worst receiving core in the nfl and it’s not even close. Anybody trying to grade Winston under this receiving core has no idea what they are talking about.

i used to think this way. however i now give him the benefit of the doubt because he is playing for the Saints for less money (probably) than he could be making somewhere else. even sat for a year or so.

I think SP has done everything possible to minimize risk with Winston at QB knowing he has a solid defense on the other side of the ball. The good news is that Winston is not committing the significant amount of turnovers many feared he could going into the season. The flip side is that he's been neutered to the extent where big games from him (which he's capable of) are not really feasible with the offensive approach. The passing game approach has basically been proceed with caution for the most part with an effort to mix in some deep shots on which you hope to hit about 50%. It is kind of a "give Jameis just enough rope as necessary to win." For better or worse, it has worked. The Saints are 4-2 despite playing essentially 5 of 6 games on the road.

The question will be how long and how well with that approach work? There are going to be some games where SP will have to throw some degree of caution to the wind and let Jameis try to win them. Particularly if the Saints have bigger goals than just having a solid season. I think Sunday will be one of those games where Jameis is going to have to make plays in order for the Saints to win. It also might be the 2nd toughest game all season for SP to keep Winston's emotions in check. You know he badly wants to kick Tampa's arse.

This is my issue. This style of play requires your team to play almost mistake free football or you lose. Sure against bad teams like the seahawks it might work but we aren't gonna 3 yards and a cloud of dust Tampa to a W. Hell, this style of play cost us 2 games to clearly inferior teams.

Expected more from him last night. Thought he turned a corner with the Washington game. But he’s improving each week, I think.

With a wet ball and high winds we needed to be conservative in the passing game. I feel like he will be back on track next week in the dome.

There are a few times he misses some wide open WR's to his left, but really makes me wonder if it's his lack of vision or a problem with pressure coming in from that side and him not able to get the ball there.

Carolina is an inferior team but we were out all of our offensive coaches and half of our starters. Good on them for taking advantage; that's how it goes in the NFL. It was just like the broncos last year when they didn't have a QB. The Giants loss was inexcusable.

Other than his times as a stupid college student at FSU, exactly what kind of person is he?

Because everything I have seen since he's been here has been a family man who has contributed time and money to a city who still has people wanting to crucify him for being a stupid college kid.

Just wait until thomas come back.

Those two will be at each other’s throats because thomas expects a lot and Winston is not going to deliver a lot

Callaway is definitely an NFL wide receiver. Outside of that, you're correct.

Really CSP has him in a game manager role right now. He is clearly a little too gun show as he is scared to death to throw a int. I think he is thinking too much and needs to be freed up some. That said we are 4-2 with a damn mash unit.

i reserve judgment on him until the season is over and he gets to okey with a healthy offense. i agree that he has been just slightly better than average but that is all CSP has wanted from him so far.

His decision making is no bueno.

SP wanted to choke his neck after he took that sack before the FG.

He'll be gone next yr. Someone will pay him and it wont be the saints.

He's not turning the ball over. Does it really matter if he is not putting up nerdy fantasy football numbers? I don't think so. Besides, look at the corps of receivers right now that he is working with.

After 6 games I thought I would have a better read on JW but alas it has not happened yet. He hasn't lost my vote for QB next year nor has he won it.

Look I'm not here to dump on your opinion or pick a fight over a pro athlete that I don't know personally I just root for the Saints.

But why make this thread now when the Saints own a record of 4-2 and may have a shot at making the playoffs?

I used to hate Winston but I have turned a corner and really want him to succeed. I’d like to see what he can do with mt13 and maybe even another season with some help via trade or the draft. I think he’s worked hard enough to deserve at least that .
