We are not there yet.
We need another very good draft and cap recalibrattion.
We can be the Commanders or Patriots of the last two years but I would rather be the Eagles or Seahawks.
We are letting a few wins cloud a four-year rebuild.

It’s a very good sign that you can even ask a question like this!

I actually think there’s a very clear path to the Saints having a good to great OL next year.
Lot harder to see that with the DL. Not good when your supposed best DL player (Bresee) being hurt ended up being better and I just don’t see them adding a guy to that position group until they see what Broughton looks like. Plus, I think their main motivation in FA is getting Guards, maybe a TE and re-signing Davis and Cam. Then the draft will be mostly offensive talent focused. Only way I see this groups improving is if the rest of the D is good, the offense is in a groove and they wanna make a trade for a beast like Jeffrey Simmons or maybe someone that might not cost as much.

I'll guarantee this doesn't happen. No 6 win team ever won the SB the following year. It won't happen next year either.

Saints at Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game with our own beastquake moment upsetting them.
Love and Shough, each have long runs for TD’s. A fan can dream the dream.

Why would you want too?

Before this year, had a 4-win team ever made it to the SB the following year. Just because it may have not happened before, does not preclude it from happening in the future.
FYI, I am not on the "we will compete for a SB appearance next year" bandwagon; but I definitely see why some fans are over optimistic.
Did a quick chat check:
In 1980 SF finished 6-10, won the SB the following year
1987 Cincy went 4-11, lost in SB the following year
1995 NE finished 6-10, lost in SB the following year
1998 St Louis went 4-12, won the SB the following year
2000 NE went 5-11, won the SB the following year

The Patriots played one of the easiest schedules of the last 20 years.
Vrabel is a top five coach who replaced a bottom five coach
They also got back elite players like Gonzalez back this year.
And finally the Patriots have a lot of good to very good players all over the field, Saints do not.

Yeah people act like the turnaround is impossible, and it's not. It has happened several times. We can maybe make a deep playoff push (yes not what the thread title is suggesting, but still) even if we don't make the big one. I think that's very possible if not even likely.

Yeah, you might want to hold on to that though.

Yup. No big free agent signings and another solid draft.

I agree. Even with out of position players, Staley and the defensive staff proved they can do more with less. And they might have to. I think you’ll see a concentrated effort to improve multiple positions on offense.
But even with Staley and offensive improvements, I still don’t know if there’s a quick enough turnaround to be a Super Bowl caliber team. A deep playoff team is a path this team can take. The 2026 Saints will be so interesting. As easily as I could see them being 10-7 or 11-6 and making a run, I could just as easily see Shough being the one year wonder we want to avoid and us being 7-10, 8-9

frick that. Go get some guys if you can. There’s a ton of space in 27 and 28. If Davis leaves, go sign Devin Lloyd or someone else. Go get David Edwards. Just don’t be crazy. Don’t give out 3 year deals to Bobby Wagner or trade high picks

Take it one step at a time. Winning season, win division, win a playoff game.

Yeah agreed. Main reason why I want to make smart acquisitions instead of jumping in with 2 feet with huge moves (initially). He passed the rookie test with flying colors. The league will now have more and more film on him and it’s going to be up to him to keep adapting and growing.
I think he’s up to the task and I’m as hopeful as any, but to think average isn’t still within the range of outcomes is a bit premature to me. I get it’s a fan site and not fun to think in terms of risk though.
Give him a decent interior o line upgrade and a few more weapons to succeed. If he weathers the sophomore slump well then start pushing more chips in.

If we're being honest, the margin between very bad vs great is not as wide of a margin in the NFL as one would think. If you have a decent QB to go along with an opportunistic defense, anything can happen. These athletes are the <.00003% people on this earth that can do what they do. A piece here or there can put a team over the top. The Saints are not far off.
