For better or worse the saints are not changing their MO in the post Brees/Payton world so expect a trade up in the draft.

If we don't cut guys and keep signing FAs, I don't know if we can sign a full draft class so I fully expect that to be the reasoning.

As long as we don't deal future picks earlier than a 4th and get a potential immediate impact player, it should be fine.

With the picks we have now we’ll need like $4M or a little less to sign the whole class. We have something like 8-10 in space now and still some moves we could make to get more if needed.

We're probably going to be back in the same spot next year, which sucks considering we're already like $100M over the cap

Where do you see us being $100 million over next years cap?

Sorry I wasn't clear. I'm talking roster spots not cap space

It's crazy how the market for defensive tackles is so high.

What it comes down to is just that offensive line play is not really as good around the league.

I'm glad Peat took his cut it's just crazy that he was getting that number in the first place and he only plays about half the season a lot of times.

Edit: of all the positions that are affected by the collective bargaining agreement and the practice time/contact allowed I think it's offensive line. And it shows a lot more in past protection than in run blocking.

So, you think we will be paying a $33 million roster bonus to MT in 2024? The cap number does not even look right based on estimates. So, that "overage" could be off by a slight $50-$60 million.

Teams see the 49ers and Eagles and what they do. I wonder if the 4-man front is going to become the vogue formation again.

Funny enough, the 49ers signed a former Eagle

The modern NFL crushes sending 5+ men for pass rushing. Rushing with 4 is associated with elite Ds. We know something about that

A literal post from page 2 by me:

I don't think it's wrong, but we all know MT isn't getting that roster bonus.

Did you read page 2 like I told you to?

I fricking hate Peat’s soft arse but this really was the only route the team had. Hopefully the big pussy can play more than half the year but I’m not holding my breath.

20 of the 55 responses in this thread so far have been Slow Flow Pro, telling us all about how fricked the salary cap is.

Dude, we get it. The salary cap means a lot to you. In fact you care way more about the salary cap then Saints management does. You are a single issue Saints fan, and that is worrying about the salary cap.

So did he take a pay cut or is this purely can kicking?

it looks like the big gain for the saints was the void year part, so they can walk away clean after this year, if they want to. i guess the rest is can kicking, if you can call it that.

We kicked the can to the void year. We've pushed $13.6M to the 2024 cap when he isn't under contract.

If we don't want to eat that (like we did with Onyamata and Davenport this year), we'll have to extend him (I believe this would allow us to spread some of that hit over the years of the extension).

*ETA: he took a paycut so that cut is being saved from both the 2023-2024 cap. I'm not sure of that #

Salary cap only causes problems if:
Gayle can't afford it
We create too many bad contracts.
We keep missing on draft picks.

Borrowing money interest free is what the saints are doing. Until financially it affects her, it doesn't matter.
