Have you read the thread? 90% of it is awful takes. It’s why those posters are silent now.

Ive changed my mind in light of Shough becoming the starter. Olave has outright said TS protects his receivers and it shows. No more big hits. Would like to see Olave re-signed rather than create a new hole on the roster.

That’s a shite trade. Two pics of guys with each about a 25% chance of sticking vs a guy already here with first round talent.

Knowingly paying a WR2 the money a WR1 should get is going to hamper the Saints ability to find a WR1
You’ll almost assuredly have to find one through the draft. Along with like 5 other positions you hagr to ring a front line player at lol

Have you seen the Tee Higgins contract? Garrett Wilson’s stats and contract?
He’s worth the money, the biggest remaining issue to me is whether the doctors can definitively say the blood clots aren’t an issue going forward

I guess I am missing the point

no, he's definitely not. But what else ya going to do? He should probably be franchised tbh

You do realize he’s under contract next year already? We don’t have to franchise him. We can let him play out his deal and franchise him next year if they have concerns about the concussions or blood clots.
Or he takes a below market extension now due to those issues. Probably around the numbers I quoted on here months ago….

I remember telling everyone at the hunting camp that if Olave doesn't take a team friendly deal he will be a 5th year opt and franchised the following year. They all laughed and said I was crazy.

Good! Trade him!

Have you seen the Tee Higgins contract? Garrett Wilson’s stats and contract?
Have you seen the current state of their respective teams?
Higgins 4yr/$115M ($28.7M/avg) with $40.9M guaranteed. Paid & utilized as WR1(b) while paying Chase 4yr/$161M ($40.25M/avg) with $112M guaranteed
Wilson 4yr/$130M ($32.5M/avg) with $90M guaranteed. Paid & utilized as their WR1
Average of 1st 4 years in NFL stats;
CO: 72rec / 932yrd / 4.7TD
TH: 64rec / 921yrd / 6TD
GW: 78rec / 911yrd / 4.5TD
Stats alone suggest he'll be in line with Wilson around 4yr/$130M ($32.5M/avg)
Olave had another really good year, but it ended with a blood clot which is extremely unfortunate for him and I honestly hate that for him because that's not play related but can still negatively affect him. I've softened my stance some on him some, because he does get open a lot and catches a bunch of balls, but Saints have to seriously deep dive into a cost-benefit analysis of paying him $30+ since he is not a clutch time game game changer type player.
In terms of taking the Jets approach, Unless we hit on big time WR in draft and/or Vele takes a big step up (since both would be cheap the next couple seasons) then I believe paying Olave $30M would handicap us leaving us in a similar situations as 24 & 25 with no true WR1 and not enough money to afford adding a higher end WR in free agency
In terms of taking the Bengals approach, we don't have the money anytime soon to pay WR1a & WR1b money at the same time. Also serious question as I don't know off-hand, but how many teams that made the playoffs or better yet are still in the playoffs are paying near MSRP contracts for both WR1 & WR2???

We also watched players like AJ brown who 9/10 would have said he's a superior wr, drop crucial passes this past weekend.
Reality is - not many wrs singularly change the game. Olave definitely isn't one of them. But you're handcuffed into it unless you franchise him after the 5th year and even then, that creates issues as we've seen with players.
Trading him also brings risks: look at Tennessee since trading brown.

Puka had a drop that could have cost the Rams the game. All receiver have drops, and unless it's a legit issue you just have to to groan and move on the few times they do it.
But doing it in the playoffs when you are wide open and could have potentially scored hurts a LOT more...

quote:We do. We have it this offseason and over the next few. We can create over $85 mil in space, and of course Olave and other receiver would not literally be on the cap this year for $60+ mil, but even if they were we can do that and still add other pieces.
we don't have the money anytime soon to pay WR1a & WR1b money at the same time
The bigger issue is that there isn't a FA receiver to bring in on a big contract like that unless you think Pickens can do it (which I think that would be more like having 2 1Bs and not work as well for either). Next best WR available is Shaheed, just so we know how dead the WR FA market is this year.
This is also why we should lean to drafting WR or DE (depending on who is available) at 8, since both positions are pretty much a bust in FA this year (DE has some aging guys but nothing great) and would be far more cost effective over a HB or S, which HB is absolutely loaded with tier 2 guys this FA.
