Loomis: Teddy, we want to extend you to 4 years. 5 mil this year, 5 mil next year unless you’re starting and it jumps to 10, 10 in year 3, 12 in year 4.

Teddy: I get to learn from Brees and Payton for a year while I finish getting healthy? And if Drew retires I get low end starter money next year? And if not, I get low end starter money the year after? Ok sounds good.

Turns out we got a 6th and Teddy for the 3rd.

I'd rather had we just given them a 6th for Teddy

Yep. Per Schefter, 6th and Teddy for a 3rd.

3rd is on the high end of what I find acceptable.

A 3rd isn't acceptable.

This makes no sense.

If you lose him bring on the compensatory pick. Saints are on top of this shite.

only if they sit out 2019 FA, and that's unlikely given that this team has been built to win around drew...and the fact they dont have a 1st or a 3rd in the 2019 draft

And everyone knows a 6th is worth three 2nd's.
2 x 3 = 6.

It's simple math.

All we did was swap 100ish spots in the draft for a franchise QB. lol

I would have loved it if it was for a 4th rounder.

I mean I get that. But we’re all expecting this to be a late 3rd rounder. I will gamble that every day for a shot at having a franchise qb in his mid 20s

Man, for a guy with a questionable leg, he's moving around pretty good out there.

Honestly, that was pretty good. He got more and more zip on his passes as the preseason went along.

Wish he’d take off the fricking gloves though

Then why not wait till next year and save a 3rd?

Because someone else could have traded for him. Pats, Steelers, Chargers, Giants ... all need to be looking for their next Qb of the future.

As long as he doesn't giggle after throwing a pick we may have found something special.

And much more significant injury risk and less experience.
Brees had as many major injuries as Bridgewater.

Bridgewater had been referred to the surgeon by former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, who had become something of a father confessor to the quarterback. Parcells told the doctor that Bridgewater was one of the greatest kids he'd ever met.

$100 bucks says Parcells spoke with Sean about this.

The difference between a high 6th round pick (saints likely getting) nd a low 3rd round pick (Saints likely giving) is roughly a 4th rounder.

The price tag isn't cheap, but if we perform how we should perform then we it's likely equivalent to a 4th rounder for top level backup QB, who has the potential to be the heir apparent. Of course we would have to work out the extension, but we have a season to take a look and see how healthy Teddy looks.

Let's not forget, QB is a very big need for the Saints, probably top 3 position of need. The Taysom hype is fine, but he's probably not a guy you want to depend on this season to be the primary backup. If the Saints had used the pick we are giving the Jets on a QB, would anyone bat an eye at that? Hell no. We used our pick on a guy who has some experience, a lot of potential but a serious injury history.

We have done well with QB's coming off of career threatening injuries
