Agreed, thankfully we have done very well recently to make this easier.

I'll agree with this. Either way, if it works out, I think this could be huge for the saints. I'm a fan of it even if it's a 3rd rounder. Keep focusing the draft on other areas. Unfortunately, we now have only one decent pick next year.
I guess, you could say its cheaper than the cost of trading up for a gamble on a rookie

per RB10, you don't give up anything when you draft a kid at a draft spot.

3rd is too high. Was hoping a 4th or 5th.
We spent a 3rd on Garret Grayson.
A 3rd for Teddy is just fine

Interesting twitter exhange about Bridewater about 2 weeks ago

I don't understand all the calls on my Twitter feed for Saints to trade for Teddy Bridgewater. His salary is $5mil, plus a lot more in incentives if he actually plays. PLUS what it would cost to trade for him. Since when do people want the Saints to invest that much in backup QB?
Darth Saint
Since we watched the Eagles win a Super Bowl with their backup QB.
Mike Triplett
But my point is that the Saints have never paid a backup QB much more than the league minimum in 13 years with Brees. And I don't remember anyone ever calling for them to suddenly spend $5-10M and give up a draft pick for one.
Darth Saint
Times change, Mike.
Mike Triplett
So you're in the camp that wants to trade a mid-round draft pick for Bridgewater or whatever it might cost? For a 1-year deal that will cost $5-10M against the cap? Surprises me.
Darth Saint
Brees will be 40 in January. I’ll gladly take a mid-round flyer on Bridgewater. Give Payton the rest of the season to decide whether or not he is worth re-signing.
Mike Triplett
Too expensive for me -- but I do agree that he'd be a legit candidate when he's a free agent next year. Brees' successor doesn't automatically have to come through the draft.
Darth Saint
Bridgewater is 25. Hill is 28. Bridgewater has been to a Pro Bowl. Hill had four turnovers in the first half of a preseason game. Give me Bridgewater.

a 3 is way, WAY too much. Unreal. We just got creamed. Pretty much guarantees this is Brees' last year.

We better hope his knee holds up and we can extend him. That’s a stiff tag for for a one year rental.
We are not renting him.

QB is too critical of a position to ignore. If you can get a starter in the 3rd round you jump on it.

with AK and the emerging D, we don't need a special QB (especially with the cost of one)
I agree. If he can stay healthy this is our guy. He’s accurate and apparently the FO and Payton like him. Actually gives me something to look forward to for the 4th preseason game.

I love this. LOVE THIS.
Worst case scenario, you give up a 3rd for a backup and future starter and he isn’t any good as a starter and you move on. You’re going to suck anyway, a 2019 3rd round pick isn’t making of breaking your franchise.
Best case, you have a great backup and your future starter and gave up peanuts

Only one year left on his deal. Wonder if we can convince him to stick around for the post Brees era (which I think will last another 3 or 4 seasons). Probably not.
I highly doubt they’d give a 3rd rd pick if Brees planned to be here 3-4 more years
I love this move

I'm starting to think this is Brees last year, especially if we win it all.

we should have known why Mr. Benson was dancing.

We got our talented, young starting QB for the future with a 3rd round pick...and we got creamed? Good lord

Makes you wonder if Brees already tipped his hand to Payton about his future...

frick YEAH
Dude. I'm stoked. This was one of the more perfect situations to find a guy post Brees.
