My inner tax voice says double confirm that. Not questioning it. However, sharing as an underpayment penalty risk watch out.
100 or 110% of prior year tax due (depending on your AGI) is one condition to avoid under-payment penalty and interest.
I share because this little nugget saved me this year.
Hopefully just a moot point for you.

I got less back, but they kept less also. So yes, I paid less in taxes this year. Most people look at the refund, but you should really focus on how much the government stole from you in the first place. The goal should be $0 refund. That means they withheld just the right amount from your paycheck.

I appreciate that, honestly, I've been using the same CPA for years and sometimes I question whether she is agresssive enough, but she's usually pretty much on the mark, when I went to pick up the return she pretty much said what you're alluding to, that we'll have to monitor that throughout the year to make sure that it is enough

I’m sure they’ll get us soon enough. Too many are relying on handouts.

Less refund than usual. Thanks Trump. So much winning for you. You’re making a lot of money! So much money!

Between the higher bracket thresholds and temp increase in SALT deduction we had ~$42k less in Fed tax burden for 2025 for similar AGI. It was very welcome and paid us back a portion of what we lost in SALT deductions since 2016.
No refund since we both pay quarterlies.

Failed promises on tax plans. I'm paying more under Trump than when under that retard Biden.

I’m a white middle class heterosexual male - so I still owed

10,300 refund for me. That OT thing really helped me.

I paid $11k in federal taxes. Didn’t help me a damn bit.

Percentage wise, about the same as last year. ditto for state.
we stupidly overpaid in estimated and payroll (by a lot) so we don't owe

I'm paying a shite-ton more. Haven't really had that significant an increase in income, but the changes he made to the child credits have had a big impact (kid was 17 and the credit dropped like a rock for that) and I'm still getting taxed for having a "cadillac" healthcare plan through my employer.

Don’t know yet. The Accounting firm that handles our account and my personal taxes is always last minute. I’m certainly going to continue to have to pay quarterly estimates, but that’s OK. It’s worth the hassle.

But, the salon she works for refused to split out the tips on the W-2 (half her income.) So she only got $123 back.
What she failed to mention to you is that most all tips hairdressers make are cash. They never pay taxes in the first place on them.
