Seems crazy no one in the Baton Rouge media has talked about this yet today. It's a pretty monumental day in this city's dull history and 30 years is a nice round anniversary. That's what happens when your town's media is mostly run by recent college grads that write about alphabet people causes.
ETA: WAFB finally posted something on facebook right as I made this post. 11:32 AM. I guess they finally woke up today. WBRZ couldn't give two shits. They might as well not even be Baton Rouge news.

I shite you not. 30 years later, I still remember that moment vividly. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared/anxious before or since.

Was working at DH Holmes at Bon Marche. Building shook, lights went out and then heard the explosion. Thankfully it didn't blow out the glass doors that faced north.

You’d never even know there was an explosion by that picture.

The windows shook on our house all the way in Pierre Part and the TV clicked off for no reason.
I remember my parents being all WTF?
A short time later we saw the news broadcast.

That's was the State Insurance Bldg. Every time the elevator would operate the bldg. would vibrate. Jim Brown's place.

Classic.
I think Mike Graham still works as a 911 dispatcher. At least he still did very recently.

Imagine a city where people volunteer to be a cop. Now you couldn’t pay me enough. Just gonna get accused of being a KKK leader or get shot by a perp

I was in my senior year at LSU and working as the assistant tennis pro at Baton Rouge Country Club on Jefferson Hwy. I was sitting in the pro shop working the counter and the blast wave blew the big double doors wide open. They then swung shut on the hydraulic closers. I was staring at them for a second or two wondering what had just happened and then the noise of the explosion arrived. Had no idea what had happened for quite a while. No twitter or Tigerdroppings back then.

Clear skies at night means the temps gets even colder. In this case the clear skies in the day increased the heat on the pipeline.

Full of asbestos. Came down sometime in early 90's.
I don't think they ever built anything there again.

That’s because of the strong arse cold front that came through a couple of days earlier. Picture perfect weather. Just super cold.

I was 19 and hanging out at my parents house in beautiful St. George and stuff on the walls shook and moved a little.
I more remember how cold it was. I have no exact idea of how cold a motherfricker is, but it was as cold as one that day.
