Insurance will try to short you replacement value if you can't prove it. They will use standard prices for a mattress when you might have an expensive temperpedic (for example).

No personal experience, but I’ve read here and elsewhere that details as to brand and the like are important. 10 men’s dress shirts may get valued at Walmart prices, but 10 Brooks Brothers relaxed fit no iron French cuff, etc will be reimbursed at a much higher rate. Same for toaster. That may be $10, but a 4-slice Breville toaster may be $200. Be specific.

So sorry to see this. Most think, "at least it happened to someone else." and then it happens to someone they know, or actually at their house.

Prayers for your family and for you as you attempt to return things to somewhat normal. Thank the Lord you guys came out uninjured.

Sadly, these are the times you find out how good that insurance you have been making payments on forever actually is. I heard someone say your insurance company only makes money when they deny you what you have already paid for, so I wish you good luck with them.

Sorry to hear that. it happened to a friend of mine not too long ago too. Damn assault trees should be banned.

Take lots of pictures and be ready to do battle with the insurance company if necessary. His company put them up in a rental and they are still there. It will probably be September before they can move back in. Just be glad no one was hurt and you have insurance. Talk to a lawyer if need be.

Actually I didn't read it, I watched KTBS's coverage on fb from last night. They specifically said between Scottsville and Waskom.

- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Shreveport LA 1102 AM CDT Fri Jun 16 2023 ...NWS Damage Survey Team Assessing Damage in Southwest Caddo Parish, Louisiana... The National Weather Service office in Shreveport LA will be conducting a storm survey in Southwest Caddo Parish, Louisiana, today. The team will be investigating possible tornado damage from severe thunderstorms that moved through the area during the early morning of June 16, 2023. A final assessment including results of the survey are expected to be completed and transmitted via a Public Information Statement later this afternoon or this evening.

Yep, appears there will likely be a confirmed tornado associated with the southern end of the storm. Looks like it may have happened prior to a tornado warning being issued.

Didn't get to read everything, but I know at my parents house they were told to scan everything destroyed (books, game cases, toys, food, I know it's petty buy you paid for it and lost it)that still had a UPC barcode to an amazon shopping list. Depending on what all was destroyed.

It made it real east for them to price it out on a spread sheet. Especially people that came to help and wanted something to do. They lost a lot of cook books and library type books.

I've just been looking around for max measured wind gusts. Those type winds were on radar, but off the ground a good bit. I found a few pixels of 130+. 98mph is the highest measured gust I've seen reported by a chaser in Mt. Pleasant, TX. I don't think it has been added to the official NWS gusts yet, though.

1a. Run to Home Depot/Lowes and get enough tarps to prevent further water damage.

1b. Call your insurance company while driving to get supplies.

2. Call a tree removal service.

3. Call a hotel and make reservations for the night(s).

4. Call a contractor.

100% all of this!

I personally knew someone who was a contractor and got them quickly. For me, because there were so many claims, having someone early that I could trust was huge!

Get a hotel ASAP if you will be staying in one during the repairs. My insurance company would get one for me, but they don't know they area and what is convenience for you for work and other things.

We had to move a lot of things out of the house to do repairs. They paid for boxes, tape, storage costs, and moving expenses.

My contractor was there with the adjuster. So much depends on getting good adjuster. My neighbor and I both had similar damage and the same insurance company. We had different adjusters, contractors, and especially inside adjusters. You get an outside one that comes to your house and an inside one that processes everything for you. Be proactive, but nice. There were only a few times that I had to get a little huffy with them. But I was very proactive. I stayed on it and did a lot of work for them.

My company (Allstate) did a weekly call with the inside adjuster to check on us and make sure the process was going well. If yours doesn't do this, try to get them to do so. It was very helpful.

I just rewatched it. It was Scottsville not Jonesville. If you watch the clip from last night, around the 31:45 mark he said 800' in the air they were measuring base velocity over 120mph.

This exact thing happened to a friend of mine. The insurance said the house was history because of structural damage. They moved to an apartment and built a house in another neighborhood. Their small son suffered from PTSD and required counseling. Everything is fine now. Good luck.

Happened to the people behind me during Ike. 2 huge trees! They had a baby and had evacuated. House was damaged beyond structural repair. It was crooked and looked like a haunted house. Insurance company bought them out, demoed the house, and sold the land.

So sorry, this sucks. I hope you can get it repaired/replaced quickly.

We actually had 3 trees fall on our house a few years ago.
The insurance company paid for a tree company to remove a bunch of other trees from around the house when they were there. It was wild, they brought in a crane and just lifted the entire trees above our house and laid them in the front yard to process.

Maybe you can get some of those other at-risk trees removed while they are in there?

Yeah, that sounds about right. As that storm approached Shreveport it lost a little top end strength. Before it got into town a boundary of some sort, maybe a gravity wave came through out of the south and collided with the worst part of the storm. When that happened it ramped the wind back up, and was also the trigger for what was the tornado that NWS Shreveport is surveying this morning. That was when I saw the 130mph+ winds aloft (not associated with the possible tornado).

You know we are only about 4 blocks apart. It looks like a bomb went off at my place, but the house is fine. With all the trees down and power poles snapped in half, I don't see how we get power back for a few days.

Sorry this happened to you. I'd offer my place if I had power to at least come get cool and get something to eat. It's already miserable here too though.

Feel for y'all! This is what my Cypress, TX neighborhood looked like last weekend.

Thank you guys so much for all the advice. It’s very much appreciated. I’ve definitely noted several things already.

As of right now, I’m just trying a get a tree company with a crane lined up to get the trees off of my house. The rooms feel very unsafe at the moment to enter to try and retrieve stuff. Not sure what else to do right now but try to line everything up.

Got a storage unit lined up as well.

Stout, you are spot on about the structural engineer. My house is pier and beam and almost 100 years old. I worry about the entire house shifting with the weight of these 2 massive trees laying on it. Definitely will need an assessment.
