I'm with OP. He was a douche who waxed poetic about food and culture to moonbat normies. I dont care much for the pretentious side of life.

Read his books. Nobody shite on himself more than him

He always said he’s just an uneducated idiot that got lucky and grew up in kitchens popping aspirins and doing drugs. He despised the douche celebrity chefs that put their name on everything despite never being in the restaurant

He wanted to see the world and learn cultures and got paid for it. He was a good dude.

Compared to much of his audience, he is. If you didn't find him interesting, consider yourself well-raised and cultured.

There was never anything special about him. There are literally thousands who could do what he did, but better. To his credit though, he knew this and felt he didn't deserve his fame.

Douche

"Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a Negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride."

Dude was on my Top 5 List of living people I would like to go drinking with for a night.

Not sure if that makes him a douche or awesome. He isn't on the list anymore for obvious reasons.

I would have loved to grab a bunch of drinks with him. Seemed like a genuine guy off camera.

Both can be true. Some people have trouble living with themselves after a long enough time. Maybe he wished he could have enjoyed the ride more than he did.

He was a nihilistic douche bag that killed himself over a woman that was nowhere near the worth he gave her.

Although he was spiritually weak but that doesn't make him a bad guy, just not someone to aspire to emulate or follow.

I can next to guarantee that Bourdain brought more joy, excitement, and wonder into the world than you would in a dozen lifetimes.

He was awesome on No Reservations.
NR is the only thing I ever viewed or kept up with on Bourdain, so I think he was awesome. I'm glad I chose not to follow his later career where he became a douche.

And yet his 11 year old daughter is probably pretty heartbroken that she has to grow up without her father because he was weak bitch.

Pretty awesome guy.

That said, the inspirational quotes you see on social media attributed to him make me scratch my head:

"Get the cream sauce, get the dessert, etc. blah blah"

Should we be taking advice from a guy who killed himself? The cream sauce didn't help him apparently.

Certainly a strike against; I still stand by my statement.

So has cocaine.

That's not something everyone should aspire to do.
