I’d like to try local food if I travel somewhere, but I’m not going to get upset at others if they don’t. I don’t care what another person eats.
You can say this all you want, but try going on vacation with someone that only orders chicken tenders everywhere you go and acting like you don't find it annoying after the third day.

You sound insufferable… but at least it sounds like you know how insufferable you are, so i guess you got that goin for ya .

His episode with Ted Nugent was hilarious. You could tell how much he resented Ted, but also how much he was ashamed of himself for loving hanging out with him bro-ing it up.

To me, this is the same as any other iteration of telling people what their preferences should be. He isn’t the arbiter of taste. He’s just another guy
I see the same actions and think "here is a guy encouraging people to LIVE outside of their bubble." I get what you are saying, it's just how it is perceived. I travel a lot domestically for work and I try to encourage people I meet to experience life and not just roll day to day as if you are in a hurry to get to the end of your being. That being said, some people don't want to hear it and that is fine too. I had a family member who was really into food and she loved trying to expose people to things they hadn't eaten before. But I finally had to pull her aside for a talk. The first time you offer them a bite is fine. The second time when you tell them they really should try the bite is fine. The third and fourth times when you insist they try something they have refused twice is being a bitch. Stop that.
It's like when you offer to pick up or half the check at dinner and someone else says they are getting it. It is polite to offer once more. But when you start arguing with them over it, you are the a-hole.

Meh, I don’t think i would care.. it’s like if you’re out and choosing not to drink for whatever reason.. some people legit have a problem with that; im like ‘Hey jackwad, im not telling YOU not to drink, so why do you care whether or not i drink ??’.. Some people just have a loser mentality i guess and have to be in other people’s business .

Douche... Shows were entertaining, but at the expense of being judgmental

This is like saying “we just want to get married bro”
It’s a slippery slope. The cringe sober people try to force sobriety on everyone eventually

Douchey. He was a tourist, an a-hole, and a junkie. People love that shite.

I have no idea what the frick you are talking about. But I saw an exhibition in Copenhagen at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (crazy coincidence on name) for Rhythm 0 and it was a fascinating.

Bourdain strikes me as the kind of person who goes out with the friend group, complains about everything, rolls his eyes at every suggestion, but still plays a long and jokes with everyone but still comes across like a sourpuss. And then, the next day tells you one on one what a great time he had and how much he appreciated being invited along.
He always seemed like the guy who just say frick yall I am not going there see you later I am going to drink at a bar. No shot he could done his show the way he did for long being that fake and essentially hating everything.
Shockingly his show catered to people who liked the local dishes and off the beaten path places. I always like the mix of the finer things along with the really simple basic foods that he recognized as being great. If that's not what you like then of course you are gonna think he is a douche when spouts off about chain restaurants, tourist places etc.

I don't know about this, he seemed to enjoy a lot of things, good food, good drinks, good conversation.

Definitely awesome. But also, an a**hole.

Anthony, I gotta ask a question, why do you hate me so much brother? Is it because you went to a fancy culinary school and I didn’t? I hear you’re the only one in class who did most of his cooking with a spoon and a Bic lighter.”

He was definitely a bit of an edgelord and loved his own opinion, but I generally enjoyed his shows and opinions.

I fight it constantly, I'm just designed to see the small issues and problems that always exist in the world. Made me a great auditor, and I can usually keep it to internal thoughts, but frick it's a constant fight.

I didn't dislike him so much as I disliked the people who liked him.

This dude got paid a lot of money to travel all over the world and eat interesting food while being adored by everyone he dealt with. If THAT lifestyle makes you act douchey and then kill yourself then there is something truly rotten in your brain.
It is no different than any other profession or any other lifestyle. My Pops said it best, and I have yet to see anyone say it better, "You never know what devils a person is fighting."
We all paint a picture for those observing from the outside, and we only see what others (anyone) want us to see. Trying to be understanding to that reality isn't excusing or condoning anything, it is just being realistic. We exist, and consequently, judge in snapshots, only small portions of the big picture.

His problem is he got pigeonholed as a pop icon, and he wanted to be more than that.
He was miscast in his roles. What Neil Peart called "those who wish to seem."

I never liked the dude... never understood the fawning over him after he off-ed himself. The content he covered was ok, his personality brought it down though. Douchey 1 Awesome 0
I loved No Reservations and watched every episode, AB was a great chef, enjoyed an adventure, and I liked and respected him.
But, having a family member who committed suicide with young kids and family having to pick up the pieces and agonize over what anybody could have said or done to help them, I cannot abide what he did. I don’t care how shitty you feel, I can never respect anyone who takes that option, especially when kids are involved.
