I owned 3 Smoothie Kings ranging from 2004-2021. I started all 3 from “scratch”. Sold them to another franchisee. I don’t regret it one bit. Loved life then, love it now.

Funny you use Subway as an example because I worked with a guy who opened one. His wife ran it and it lasted 5 years. He never broke even, not once. He’s an ahole anyway so he deserved the failure.

It's a block from a Starbucks and a McDonalds. Seems an odd hill to die on. Lots of traffic on the main road there though. As a coffee shop franchisee I wouldn't want to set up shop across the street from that level of existing competition.

I know the guys opening a whole bunch of The Human Bean coffee shops in the north metro ATL crescent. Their stores near Starbucks do better than those that don’t have one close.

They like locating near Starbucks and Dunkin. If a target or whole foods is close by even better.

Because Starbucks is terrible. I would take the option other than SB everytime.

I’ll give you a snippet. The “plus” hasn’t existed for years.

Not so much in Texas though. A guy from Monroe who worked at the one across from NLU back in the day who lives here in my suburb of Houston (Kingwood) opened one about 10 years ago maybe. It was in a good location and he tried to make it work, but ultimately Texans aren't born with the Johnny's 318 gene to crave that pizza literally every day. I tried to keep it afloat as best I could though.

In all seriousness, I love Quizno's and often wonder why those don't stay open. I hardly ever see them anymore even though I know they aren't bankrupt and do have some stores still around, but their footprint is hardly non-existent where they used to have them everywhere. I think they are the best sub out there and would love to own one of them if I had a chance. Just wonder why they don't make it? Are they a difficult company to partner with?

Yes it supported my family for three decades. McAlister’s and Newk’s. Most of my working life was in the franchisee business and met many of my lifelong friends doing it

I’ve owned 2 different franchises. One sandwich shop and one smoothie shop. Both made money. Both were hard work. Both were fun as hell.

I would not do it again. But I’m thankful for all of the lessons I learned and friends I made.
