Yes!!

When I was a young housewife I had a couple of church lady cookbooks where every recipe was based on a general knowledge of cooking/baking and one store bought cookbook that was fairly decent, but watching videos and techniques is so much better!

My daughter has cooked delicious dinners made of stuff I never even heard of... whereas I grew up on shake n bake, mac n cheese and kid cuisines, sloppy joes and i can't even remember....

Sloppy joes, funny story.

I was a young housewife and saw a big can of manwich at the store... figured that'd be an easy meal, grabbed it, some buns and a sack of chips.

I didn't know you had too cook meat and add it separately, I thought it was all in the can. Dinner sucked that night.

My daughter will never have to live through that, or draining rice, or any of my other young housewife missteps.

Yes. They are also increasing in size which is ironic.

I cook 75-80 percent of the meals at our house. My wife is a solid cook, but I got really good between the ages of 25-30 as a bachelor. I enjoy doing it and find it relaxing to come home and do that and have a beverage of choice while doing it.

My wife has always cooked a good bit but within the last few years has really taken off with cooking all kinds of awesome things. And yes I’m very appreciative and supportive (even lending a hand when she allows me) but sometimes I just get in the way so I’ll just hang out and sip some wine.

You should learn to cook whether you're male or female and shouldn't be dependent on a partner/spouse to cook.

I do the cooking in our house sans once a week when I have some later hours. Or he wants to grill out/smoke a pork butt, brisket, or ribs. Then I'm usually just doing the sides.

I cook 90% of my meals and I I don't have to listen to jibber jabber about inconsequential bullshite.

I don't see how my friends put up with it. Their wife's do work, so that's a plus.

Now this I could see. I do earn enough to pay for a house cleaner though.

I think the videos made people realize a recipe that may seem daunting in a cookbook is pretty doable once you watch someone do it (who knows how). Similar to watching YT videos on car repairs. Simple if you know how to do it.

But if you just open up River Road recipes and look at a dish, you might be intimidated.

I enjoy cooking, but have to ‘batch cook’ most of the time on weekends for a couple of reasons.

1. I don’t have a lot of time to prepare food on a typical work day.
2. I cook from scratch and that takes far more time than opening a box of processed crap and heating it up.

My Millennial wife (no pics) does about 90% of the cooking and is a good cook. I’ll cook if she has to work late.

I also think many men have taken over the cooking roles, grilling and smoking have become trendy hobbies

That's probably what this comes down to. Two household incomes/working full-time are a regular thing now. So it's understandable that the expectation shift to some responsibilities being split if you're both working.

That's cool if folks want straight up traditional roles, but if that's the case you're talking about a period where women weren't working and spent the day cooking/cleaning/staying home with the kids. I'd love to do some more extensive cooking but working during the week doesn't allow it so I do more involved cooking on the weekends (if we don't have other plans to go out).

Aren't the directions right there on the can?

Yes... didn't read it til after I got home. The picture on the can had meat, thought that's what I was getting, not just sauce.

I was a horrible young housewife, I eventually learned a few things and am capable now. I exploded the dishwasher in our second apartment too... didn't know dishwasher detergent and dish detergent were two different things- I loaded up the tray with Dawn and pressed play. Suds EVERYWHERE! I cried. A lot.
