Jansport or Northface when we were in school, but now the kids also have Osprey or Patagonia. Massey's or Backpacker will have those.
And screw the guys giving you a bad time. Good luck going back to school this fall.

I’m reluctant to help you because of your arrogance, but in no circumstance will you need to carry 3 large text books

Goruck. GR1 or GR2
Both my sons use a goruck pack for college.

Swiss/Wenger backpacks
+1 for Swissgear. Very well-made backpacks. I just replaced my ~10 year old Swissgear, bought the exact same model. Will do it again in 10 more years if they still make it.
ETA: They sell a few models at Best Buy (as well as Samsonite and a few other brands mentioned ITT) if you want to check them out in person.

If you’re the old baw going to law school I would see if you can just get a locker so you’re not hauling around these heavy arse books all the time. And it’s easier to just carry the ones you need for class or to bring home and not risk the backpack straps ripping from the weight.
Alternatively, just put your books in a plastic crate to keep in the car, and just bring in whatever book you need for the class that day.

In law school particularly as a 1L you will need to carry books back and forth pretty much every day. You end up with a lot of crap: case books, rule books, study aids and the like. When I was a 1L not all 1Ls got a carrel and it was too far to walk back and forth from the car vs just hauling everything for the day. It also depends how much your schedule is spread out.

I am 5:30-9pm on Tuesdays and Thursday. Three classes each day and they all have large hard cover textbooks. No online books. I will also need to walk quite a bit from parking to classes.

Just went through 3 airports last week and don't recall seeing one single "man purse". I did see a lot of backpacks and was carrying my knockoff North Face that I bought in the market in Shanghai in 2004 that is still going strong.
I do and have always considered myself a REAL MAN, so if my backpack make you feel otherwise, SONIC on Jackson St in Elleck for a knuckle check.

For me, personally, it's the Louis napsack where I'm holding all the work at. What you know about that?

Congrats on giving this a go. Just got my BS at 43. As for the books, you'll probably be getting those electronically.

Osprey is great quality; I have a couple carry-on's I use for work and travel. They are well made, sleek, functional. They dont have all the extra pockets, loops, carabiners like the Ogio's. The Ogio's are good too, I just forget where I put things if there's too many pockets.

You can find slightly less expensive Tumi backpacks on sites like Nordstrom Rack and Saks off 5th. Definitely worth it.

if the textbooks are hardcover get a canvas pack. The corners will eat right thru a synthetic fabric pack (like a hiking daypack such as osprey). The old school ruck is what you want

When I was in school we kept our miscellaneous crap in a cigar box. It was on the list of things to bring to school….
