I live in the mountains. The only place id leave for is the beach. The weather is better in the mountains. There is not another vacation i look forward to more each year than orange beach for a week with my family.
Anyone who says they would rather be at work than the beach for a week needs to get their brain examined
i'm being mostly facetious I guess. but trips to the beach are not fun or relaxing.
i think anyone who would leave Colorado for Orange Beach should have HIS head examined.

With no kids, we'd likely just do chairs. With kids, we generally get a few sets of chairs and set up a 4post nesso in front.

I hate "The Beach." A lot. It's one of my least favorite places to go/things to do. I hate it far more than work. I like reading other people's bitchings and complainings about the beach because it reminds me to be grateful that I'm not at the beach.
I love the beach, mountains even an occasional urban vacation. The beach does pose some challenges but we seem to always adapt quickly and have a great time.
But as far as preferring work? frick that. I’d rather do a staycation at home than that.

I love the beach. I’ve vacationed from Gulf Shores to Destin every other summer my whole life. I’m never going back due to all the reasons described in this thread.
I’m also done with all the tourist crap.
My next trip will involve an airplane, a rental car, and a house on the beach somewhere on the east coast that’s not a tourist trap. For the price I was paying for Destin condos, it’s about the same cost in time and money.

I compromised. I use to rent chairs, then I did bring a canopy a few years because it gives more shade. I honored the stay behind the chairs rule.
Then I got tired of dragging the canopy back and fourth as the kids got older and spent less time with us in the shade. So I got actual beach umbrellas.
I early bird it and stake my umbrella (still closed) and a couple of beach chairs in a good spot.
I fall somewhere between classy and trashy... You know, a normal person.

Well, yea, duh. Who wouldn't? If my options are go to work and sit through a full week of uncovering unconscious racial bias seminar or go to the orange beach, gimme the crusty white lady explaining to me how I'm racists without even knowing it for a week.

What? Why? Seems like an extremely subjective thing.

Takeaway - you really hate the fricking beach.
Good God man.

That took me second to figure out what you were talking about.
I like to stare down the tent people and make sure they stay in the back.

which is why i said "i think"
but personally, for me, subjectively, Colorado is amazing and beautiful with limitless outdoor activities and the beach is the beach.

I've seen a whole lot more Colorado tags down here since 2020. Use to never see them before Covid

I feel you. I absolutely love Colorado and the western mountains and desert.
but come on, the beach isn't just the beach. There are just about as many(but different) outdoor activities to do here as there are in Colorado.

I actually hate tent people less than I hate shibumi people. The tents don't sound like a helicopter flapping in the wind like the shibumis do. And aside from blocking views all the way down the beach sometimes, people will set them up and then put their gear in the shade only to sit in the sun themselves
Luckily the beaches here are miles long so plenty of room to find your own quiet slice.
