I agree. I have two Citizen Eco Drives that I love. Keep great time, look nice, plus they are in my price range.

How do you explain people buying expensive watches that the average person has no idea about?
he cant

Easy:

First off, who said it was just for the average person? It's as much as a look at me fellow pretentious show off, I'm in the club too thing.

The average person can look at watch and can't tell it's expensive then the pretentious idiot has wasted his money on the wrong watch.

Plus the pretentious way it's being shown off is usually a clue too, among other things.

pretty sure his point sailed over your head.

there's plenty of expensive watches out there that look like a $50 timex if you didn't know any better.

i wear one; a zenith, which you've probably never heard of and probably don't care about and so you and 99.9% of the general population wouldn't care or notice.

so explain my motivation to wear a watch that only i get to enjoy? where's the pretension?

i like watches so sue me.

While we’re at it, I “stole” my dad’s Seiko moon phase that he wore when I was growing up. It’s at the store getting fixed and I’m looking for straps for it. I’ve been struggling to figure out if 38mm is too small for my next(first) mechanical watch purchase. Wearing this tiny arse 34mm watch instantly made any 38 feel big enough

Anyone out here wearing a 33.4mm watch?

Chemically same, but they are different.

There’s a certain charm about something coming from the Earth that took thousands of years to be made. The small imperfections have some character.

The Chinese can build a 1:1 copy of of Rolex, hell there are rumors that most luxury watches come out of China and finished in Switzerland. Yet we have no problems spending the thousands of dollars for the real thing.

That’s just not true

A friend of mine says he gets more compliments on his cheap $50 watch than his multi thousand dollar one.

ok Mr DeBeers. you didn't want a perfect diamond! You want to pay more for cracks and imperfections

You can't make this up

There is a happy medium with the 4 Cs. Wife wanted antique old mine cut, by definition there are imperfections because it’s done by hand.

So yes, I actually paid for some imperfections.

Simple. You have an odd sense of getting pleasure from an inmate object --one that looks cheap to boot!
And I love watches, especially ones that do a hundred more things than just tell time and cost $250-$800.00

Anyway we've all made our positions clear. Done with this one.

I too prefer my diamonds to be a little fricked up and stained with the blood of poor starving kids, the poo of shady smugglers, and the greasy fingerprints of diamond hoarding dabeers executives. Only the bloodiest of conflict diamonds in my household. That's what makes them special after all. Nobody wants one that's perfect and made in a machine in a controlled safe environment.

I'll tell you what to do. Buy the 20mm rubber strap and cut the ends with an exacto knife. I've done this before. Be careful and try to cut straight

I like the narrow band.

How’s the Miyota 8S20? Say compared to a 4r36?

It's those little things that make it special.

We agree on the watches but got to disagree with you here. Lab grown diamonds are lame. Part of what makes diamonds awesome is the time it takes for them to be made naturally, not something some dork made in a lab. It's the AI of jewelry. Same applies to pearls. Part o the beauty from a pearl is that it's some wonder of nature that something like that can grow in a mollusks out in the ocean. Wouldn't buy a lab grown diamond for the same reason I wouldn't buy a lab grown pearl for the Mrs.
