Wow reading through these comments, there sure is a lot of “I” and “me” when talking about your kids.
I want to go fishing on the weekends.
I want to go camping on the weekends.
I don’t want to spend my weekends at the ball field.
How about if your family enjoys it(whatever it is) you do it and not worry what others are doing

No it is true. Half of them have parents that never played the game and are oblivious to common courtesies.
And the slightest boo boo results in one of the same kids writhing in pain.
You don’t know if they have a scratch or a concussion

The requirement for highschool baseball tryouts is tournament experience? That's shitty and lazy on the coach's part. Evaluate talent and go from there.
Some of these coaches get paid to coach travel ball. You connect the dots.

Playing tournaments all weekend doesn't make you a better ball player anyway.
Back in the days when tournament ball was reserved for the best players, it made a difference.
Most of the players at the A and AA levels aren't any better than your below-average rec ball player, except, they have nicer uniforms and no minorities on the teams. Nor is the coaching any better.
But what really gets me are the coach-pitch travel ball teams. You gonna pay all that money for glorified pitching machine ball? It's insane.

It’s pretty pathetic how this board dwells on a parent enjoying sports with their child. Almost as pathetic as grown men and their banter on what is and isn’t trashy. . It just reeks of insecurity,
Don't be so touchy and good luck to Jaxxdynne this weekend.

When did travel ball become a thing? Everyone I know who’s 35 and older didn’t play it when they were younger.

Moved up to HS ball now.
Pretty much 0% chance he would have made the team without travel ball.
Done right, it's a big part of the actual game experience needed to play these days.
I've seen the same thing. If a kid is a great athlete and shows some skill, a coach may take him.
However, knowing how to play the game, knowing situational baseball, and having advanced skills puts players on the field.
Our 9 most consistent starters were travel ball players. The top of the line up are travel ball players. Our top pitchers were travel ball players.
It may not stay that way, but that's how it has been too this day.
Now, I don't believe a kid has to be on a majors team, pay huge bucks to an organization, play year round, or start when they're 7 years old.
Success cones from
1) having a kid that wants to play and be coached
2)coaches who have an interest in teaching kids and are more concerned with developing kids than picking up wins in pool play.
3) supportive parents of their child, the team, and the coaches.
Too many parents only care about winning, yet they want their kid to only play SS, only to find out when their kid goes to tryouts there's possibly 3 kids who were better than them and their kid doesn't know how to play outfield.

Travel Ball became a thing due to the pursuit of the almighty $$$$!! The promoters make thousands of dollars in non-taxable cash at the gate and concessions. The hotels and restaurants make millions annually. It’s become a huge industry across the south fueled by demand from parents who think Jr. is the next Alex Rodriguez. I know some folks who run a few tournaments, they make thousands every weekend. It ain’t going away.

I think travel ball gets made fun of on here because of social media and all the moms who post stupid shite about their kids playing a world series every weekend. At least that's how it got started...

So he doesn't have any natural talent?
Nobody makes the team he made without some talent.
It’s one of three things. Either you’re 1- bigger than the other kids, 2- you’re more talented than the other kids, or 3 - you’re more skilled than the other kids.
He’s got enough of 2 and worked his butt off on 3.
Travel helped a lot with 3. If nothing else, it showed him where he needed to be in order to compete at the high school level.

This blew my mind a couple of years ago when good friend was in town for a tournament for his son's team. I had a tight schedule and could only see them during one of their games, and they didn't tell me I had to pay to get in. I didn't have any cash on me, and I got into a heated argument with the ladies at the gate. I told them it was a public park in my city and I wasn't paying them a dime and walked on in. I was literally there for about 15 minutes. No way was I paying $10 to get in.

This is the part the haters refuse to acknowledge.
They want to make out every travel experience to the stereotype they’ve created.
Like most things in life, that is the outlier.
The landscape has changed from rev to travel, but that doesn’t mean all travel is crazy travel.

The organizations rent the fields, or parks on usually a daily fee. At Oak Villa, BREC charges per field per day then charges the organization a corkage fee assessed per team playing that weekend.

A number of the parks aren't taxpayer-funded. For the ones that are, the tournaments rent the parks from the municipaility, so they charge entry fees to help recoup their cost. $10 is insane, though.
