If they wouldn't have put "special" they would have been fine. That was our normal Wednesday meal...

So, the company cafeteria put out the week's menu today. It was essentially the same. Multi-billion international company. Same heading, almost the same menu. I laughed because it was an attempt to "celebrate" yet was so "Stereotypical". No one was offended, but when pointed out to the 3rd party meal provider, they scrambled to change the name of the menu from a "BHM Celebration" to "Southern BBQ". It was a show of "We want to be PC and recognize BHM, but now that we have, we are 'racist'". It was interesting to watch them snatch up the menus, turn off the tv's w the menus, and change the website with the week's meal. Lunchtime entertainment. They were trying to be socially aware and it completely backfired.

IS it racist?
Or is it more of a stereotype that is true?
Saying black people like fried chicken isn't inherently racist. It is at worst an off color assumption, at the best... True.
Saying black people are dumb so they just fry a chicken to eat it IS racist
Saying black people drink kool aid because they're stupid and poor IS racist
But celebrating BHM by serving food that most people ~associate~ black people with isnt going to plant a seed in little timmys brain that he hates black people
"Racism" is so diluted of an accusation these days

This was the argument. If you are gonna celebrate it, same way you would with any other ethic group, you pick the favorites. If it was Cajun celebration day, they would make etouffee or gumbo (like they do weekly, for me, not a Cajun, but miss LA food). Stereotypes exist for a reason, because it is how the vast majority of a group behaves. The fact that everyone who read the menu went "Oh" is a little strange.

What's really funny is your meth head cousin trying to sell her food stamps to buy more meth.

The real people to get fricked in this situation is the kids at that school. They will likely never serve fried chicken again

Who the hell doesn't like fried chicken and Cornbread?
I grew up in the south. It's fricking delicious.
At my elementary school, we had a lunch lady who cooked fried chicken every Wednesday and it was fricking amazing. Am I a racist?
When is this madness going to end?
When they serve green jello on St. Patrick's day will the superintendent apologize?
When they serve Pizza with an Italian flag on the menu will the superintendent apologize?
When they serve Tacos on Cinco de Mayo will the superintendent apologize?
When they serve tapioca pudding and cold milk on white history day will the superintendent apologize?
No. You know why? Every other culture or ethnic heritage celebration I listed above is just that. An accepted celebration of that culture where everyone gets to share and enjoy some of the things that culture is known for. For whatever reason, instead of that same logic applying to Black History Month, we instead have to be careful not to mention anything about black history or do or say anything about black people unless you're black . no one else is allowed to celebrate or enjoy their heritage.
"hey, my favorite type of Mexican food is tacos"
Is a perfectly acceptable thing to say.
"hey my favorite soul food is fried chicken" could literally cost you your job for being a racist piece of shite. Ponder that.

When I was a freshman in college, we visited a black friends home in Lafayette for a weekend away. He asked what his mom should make and I jokingly said fried chicken. We show up to his house and he had told his mom so she made it. Best god damn fried chicken of my life.

Maybe already covered, but what would be an acceptable and appropriate menu to mark BHM?
One that black students and employees would agree is representative of their culture and heritage yet not offensive.
In NOLA, you could go Creole, but outside of that, ???

That's not how it went at all.
you are making up a scenario that didn't happen and goes against documented African history to spin a narrative.
You should be ashamed for your intellectual dishonesty.
They were trading slaves well before Europeans were buying them from them. And had weapons due to spice and sugar trading again before slavery made its way to America.
This is all bull shite.
quote:
You're repugnant for this blatant pandering to a narrative and vilinizing a race rather than being willing to accept that people around the world do fricked up shite
LOL it is not a narrative if it is the truth.
quote:
It's not my job to spoon feed you information. If you truly give a shite you'll do it on your own
but you have no problem spoon feeding me the white man's defense for slavery and how the africans are at fault for slavery.
You are a lying piece of shite.
