Each situation is different so I am not going to get caught up in this "well its good she lost her job because it happens the other way all the time". IF she was fired JUST for using "light skinned" that falls under cancel culture. And we shouldn't get caught up in "they want to cancel people all the time, now we are going to cancel them".
We know, but its refreshing seeing the double standard being thrown the other way. Black people make fun of white people all the time. Doesnt bother me or most white people im familiar with. Call me a cracker or light skinned all you want. But if the rules are set for cancel culture or not, they should be set for whites and blacks equally.

None of this, “oh its okay for black people to be racist, but not white people, because some of their great grandparents were slaves.”
Ive never owned a slave myself. Like we get it, its horrible, but lets fricking move on FFS.

The restaurant has a policy against racist jokes. She broke the policy and was fired accordingly. People need to stop looking so deep into shite.

I'm failing to see what was so offensive that it warranted being fired. Two Karens were offended by a light-skinned black people joke? It's not directed at them, were they offended on behalf of light-skinned black folks?

Never worked in a restaurant have you? As someone who has and has witnessed countless acts of pettiness, I’ll give you the real story. Bitch 1 and bitch 2 don’t like bitch 3 and bitch 3 feels the same way about bitch 1 and 2. Bitch 3 calls guy in the kitchen a light skinned mother fricker and bitch 1 and 2 have their opening to get rid of bitch number 3. Bitches then do what bitches do to other bitches. No one was really offended by the comment, it’s just a means to get rid of a coworker they didn’t like. The end

No, I've never worked in a restaurant. It makes sense that it's just some petty bitch shite but I still don't see how it's a fireable offense.

I actually approve of this. If white people can be fired for saying things like that, then all people should be fired for saying things like that.

It's been over 15 years but the only time mean words were an issue between front and back of house was if patrons could hear. That's just the way it is at restaurants. Some people you actually meant the things you said but it was pretty familial before and after shifts.

Here's why this is great news.....only when it starts to be the other side suffering the consequences of cancel culture will it end.

Apparently, the two black employees had no idea they were being racist (the one to whom the epithet was directly clearly didn't). It's a good thing the white saviors were there to educate them.

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned how the article uses the word “playfully” here in a subtle way to soften up the perceived severity of the action in order to make the reader more sympathetic to the fired worker. 2021 “journalism” at its finest.

I don’t even recognize this country anymore. It’s certainly not the land of the free and home of the brave anymore. That’s for certain, embodying neither freedom nor bravery anymore.

What a hypersensitive bunch of thin skinned killjoys.
