Chiming in for male dog here.
Mine follows me around the house, sleeps all the time, and chills with me. Girl dogs are more hyperactive IMO

I have a pair of brothers, first males I've had in 20 yrs.
They are less destructive than any single female I've ever had,
But
They fight like grizzlies.
All the time.
Females are a much better temperament.

Girl. Boy dogs are nasty and can piss the walls or on furniture when they're being potty trained.

This. My female lab is an unbelievable dog, but she gets her feelings hurt way too freaking easy. Then once you hurt her feelings she holds a grudge against you for most of the day. It's crazy how much female dogs act like women.

I've owned several of both in my lifetime, and I've found females to be more loyal than males. If you're looking for a companion, get a female. Most of the male dogs I've owned have been bull-headed assholes, but still loving. The males needed more exercise as well. The females were content to just lay around most of the day, but would run and play when given the chance.
