I commented before I saw that they were sterile.

But still, why tempt fate?

Asian carp are an invasive plague. Triploid grass carp are a benign tool used to control pond weeds. Bout a 99% chance this is what they're actually stocking.

I’m pretty sure a grass carp is considered an Asian Carp. There are 4 types of Asian Carp in the US. Grass Carp, Bighead Carp, Black Carp, and Silver Carp (the ones that jump)

Possibly dumb question: if they’re put in an artificial lake and are sterile, what’s the problem?

I’ll answer your question with a question. When does anything in Baton Rouge planned by local government go as planned?

It's not exactly. It feeds into (and was, I guess really part of originally) Bayou Duplantier, which is connected to basically the entire SE Louisiana watershed, which ultimately drains to Lake Maurepas.

How big a problem is that? Once these carp die off, just dump some fish back in.

And the other fish are not doing well anyway because of the algae and crap water conditions.

These will hopefully eat the vegetation that creates algae, then die.

Highly misleading headline. Asian carp are an invasive plague. Triploid grass carp are a benign tool used to control pond weeds. Bout a 99% chance this is what they're actually stocking.

God, I hope you're right. If they are actually transporting those wretched creatures they should be caned.

The vibrations of the interstate will probably trigger them to jump and start knocking out joggers passing by along the shoreline.....

Drivers on the interstate will become distacted looking at the jumping carp, leading to huge pileups.

But what happens when we’re overrun with Carp?

No problem. We simply unleash wave after wave of Chinese Needle Snake. They’ll wipeout the Carp.

But aren’t snakes even worse?

Yes. But we’re prepared for that. We’ve lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.

Then we’re stuck with gorillas!

No, that’s the beautiful part. When winter rolls around the gorillas simply freeze to death.

“Easy target for eagles”
I do not live in BR but was in town walking the lake a few weeks back and thought I saw an eagle flying above the lake.
Are there really eagles in the area?
It was not a vulture! I am very familiar with their wing profile.
