Oh yeah? Well I too have been in the business (allegedly) for decades and I disagree with all of that !! Bed in a box is the only way to go. And because I was pithy and used exclamation points I win.

Victory is mine.

I did quite of bit of research last year on all of those mattresses. I selected the Purple Hybrid and absolutely love it. It sleeps so much cooler than my previous mattress. I'd buy it again without a second thought.

The wife and I love the purple mattress. It's medium/firm and sleeps cool (which I enjoy). It seems to work for belly, side, and back sleeping. I sleep the cycle of positions while the wife is a back sleeper. The mattress doesn't seem to need to be rotated as frequently because of the weird grid system. In the past, I always had issue with mattresses inevitably denting in where my lard arse sleeps. Not with the purple.

And, as with most of the bed-in-a-boxes, if you hate it you can get rid of it.

We bought a Puffy a few years ago, started out wonderful. The past 6 month or so have taken a turn for the worst, it has become so soft it's unbearable. We bought this one because it has a "lifetime" warranty which has turned out to be a complete joke. They asked us to prove that it has an indent, it's fricking memory foam! It goes back to it's original shape when you get off of it, that doesn't mean it hasn't lost all of it's firmness. I get they can't take everyones word for it but there has to be another way to prove it.

What's your opinion on the best traditional mattress for side sleepers? I'd prefer a softer mattress.

I own both Casper and T&N. Yes, I have multiple beds bc I'm rich. Casper is softer than T&N. I bought Nod by T&N line for kids beds and they are firm but sleep well too. I've also had sex on all brands. T&N holds up better for big girls and Casper is ideal for delicate women and lady boys. Don't get fooled by big mattress - springs are for old people and Tempur is a mlm scheme.

Yep. We have one in our guest bedroom though. I think it's Casper, but can't remember. I've slept on it a few times, and it's really not bad, but I wouldn't want to sleep on it every night.

We just bought a mattress from a local shop that has them "custom" built. I figure that's just a marketing ploy, but it's been a great mattress. I really wanted a Tempur but couldn't convince myself to drop the coin on the one we really liked. Think is was almost $6k.

Don't think I gave clarity. I don't go to the store. Not to pick it out, not to pay, not to bring it home.

Why are you so against this? Is this really a viable option to purchase based on recommendation?

I need a new mattress too, just seems hard to believe I could get a mattress we both like without even pressing my hand into it much less laying on it.

I’d love to be convinced to order a new one today too, ours has gotten too hot.

If you stick with coil I'd go Sealy or Sterns for upper end. Be persistent in asking on coil count but more importantly coil density. If they do not know, find a salesman who does. Its their job. The Sterns base series is actually pretty reasonable cost wise and the Rockwell series I had good feedback from customers. The Rockwell Plush pillow top is like 2300 but you can find it on sale on the regular. If you want REALLY soft their hybrid plush is fricking like sleeping on a cloud. I loved that bed.

Depends on your sleeping position and temperature. Generally soft is best for side sleepers, firm for back sleepers and medium for combo sleepers. Also, the more foam it has tends to make it hot, but a lot of the hybrids are using various cooling materials. I settled on the Helix Luxe line(Midnight), but there are a lot of good options these days. Most brands offer a generous trial period.

We recently purchased a t&n mainly bc Lowe’s had them in stock and the purple and nectar had to be ordered. So far it has been a comfortable mattress and was much cheaper than the other two.
