It's crazy how you never know what's going on with someone behind closed doors. I saw him at Rouses Saturday afternoon. Always looked happy..
yep, I always saw him at rouses and he always looked like he was happy guy. Smiling, interacting with people, physically fit, good family, job, money....just never know though.

Sorry to hear this. My wife and I were fishing off the road on Hwy. 1 and he pulled up to wet a line while waiting for his son in law. Talked to him for about half and hour, and got a picture with him. Seemed like a great guy, even gave me some Bergeron's Beef Jerky when I asked him jokingly if he had any. You never know.

Damn that’s terrible. I watched his show and would see him around every now and then at some fishing tournaments. I emailed him one day to ask some questions about his boat, he even took the time to reply to my email. Super nice guy, sorry to hear this.

We have to remember that these local fishing show hosts don't live the glamorous, baller lifestyles that we all imagine they do.

Raise your hand if you imagine that.

I last saw him at the sportsman show in Gonzales earlier this year. He seemed happy, but you never know. Heard that he was battling with depression for months and that the family was trying to help him work through it. My dad committed suicide in '94 so I know too well how devastating this is to his family. RIP Tony. May you catch many limits in Heaven.

Rumor is there was a note. He had just dropped someone off at ER. Note was something along the lines of "sorry I hurt you"

Any verification of this?

His brother in law came in the thread on the Outdoor Board and said the note rumor is just that, a rumor. Let's not spread it anymore

I’ve run into him a couple times and seemed like a nice guy. Obviously had some issues. Found out today he is related to one of my good friends

You are a grade A dick!!!!

and hookers are paid to have sex - doesn't mean they are happy....

as someone who has guided waterfowl hunts as a youngster(early 20s) and again later in my 40s.....

guiding is NOTHING like hunting and fishing with people you actually WANT TO BE IN THE OUT DOORS WITH...

My wife is very good friends with his daughter. Once I have confirmation of the "why" I can let y'all know. The family is obviously distraught right now and never saw this coming. They're extremely religious and are relying on that to get them through each day right now.

edit: Well nevermind, the Thibodaux police have already issued statement with specifics.

quote:
Thibodaux police are investigating a morning suicide at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center that claimed the life of a local TV personality and businessman.
According to Chief Bryan Zeringue, Tony Fontenot, 59, of Schriever shot himself to death shortly before 7:30 a.m. with a small-caliber weapon in one of the hospital’s public bathrooms.
“Basically he went to the hospital and walked into the restroom near the emergency room area and shot himself,” Zeringue said. “It’s unfortunate, but people commit suicide around this time of the year for a number of reasons.”

This was all known yesterday.
