We have been swamped with civil engineers trying to re-enter the municipal world after jumping to O&G (for bigger $).
Can’t blame them, but we are avoiding them and not offering jobs due to their likely bounce should the oil world rebound.

Those aren't MAGA. You will be doing anti-racism training, you will be doing weekly Diversity meetings, you will be encouraged to go to Allyship seminars, and other marxist BS.
It's the reason I started my own company, I couldn't take it anymore (and that was before George Floyd)

Depending on what you do in the oilfield, you can get a job at a plant that has nothing to do with oil and still make jack without worrying about your job.
Cons: it’s still a plant

Dont forget the "Donations" to said charities and campaigns to push the ongoing victims diversity and sufferage into positions.....

Do y’all think it may be a bad idea to get an instrument tech degree? Trying to figure out if I should still do that or pursue a different path. I’m a little worried about the uncertainty in the O&G industry
Instrumentation isn’t going anywhere, and it can pay pretty well depending on where you end up.
I don’t know what your background is (other than O&G) but I would suggest looking into a program with more of an automation focus if it’s something you are interested in.

Nope would not be talking about anything like that.

Instrument Tech's have been in demand for 30+ years.
FWIW, Louisiana instrument techs built the robotic manufacturing lines in Silicon Valley back in the day.

Guyana needs to figure out who the president will be. Some psycho socialist won by promising the people free everything after Exxon , Shell, BP, pay crazy high taxes. Of course this brain dead socialist honestly thinks that these companies won’t leave because “ya know, Guyana is all cool and shite. Why would they ever leave.” Unless things change, Guyana will look like Venezuela in 5 years.

I'd rather work in tech but you'll likely start out making crap money for a few years unless you already have a lot of experience. It's pretty much like any other field in that regard.

I’ve worked in Oil & Gas, Paper mills and power plants and as for as hourly jobs go, instrument tech is one of the best jobs at any of the locations I’ve worked. It’s usually a day shift job, pays well, the work is fairly safe, not very labor intensive and it’s a skill that crosses over to pretty much any industry that monitors and controls pressure, flow, levels or temperatures. I&C techs have base offices with desks, chairs and Climate control, unlike much of the Mechanical maintenance work I’ve done. If I were gonna go back and start over in the industrial fields, it would be as an Instrument Tech.

Not really, you won't be stuck to just the O&G industry. Demand for automation in industrials/manufacturing will only increase.
I’m in this business, and this guy is correct. If you have a good work ethic you will never be out of work.
