Would I fight in a senseless war like Vietnam? No.
Would I fight in a war with a clear goal and a clear enemy like WW2 and the initial 9/11 response campaigns? Yes.
I love our military and what this country stands for but we cannot go around letting our servicemen and servicewomen die in vain.

Of course they could. The Japanese and Germans of today are much weaker.

Today's high schoolers appear to be banging teachers left and right. So yeah, they could probably fight WWII.

Today's college students and many 20-somethings....different story.

For the sake of answering a hypothetical question I will say yes, because I still have faith in the US military to properly motivate and train young men and women to protect and defend this country and its allies.

Lets not for get that in 1940 the US government instituted the first ever draft and if historical data is to be trusted some 50 million people were registered of witch 10 million were drafted in to the military.

This tells me that what we would have seen had this generations youths with their attitudes grown up in the WW2 era then would have been massive bitching and moaning and protests but in general we would have seen the great majority answer the call to fight for this country. Least we forger the average grunt in WW2 was your typical scared young adult who was given a crash course in staying alive long enough to help win a battle or two. Not to take away from their commitments and sacrifice but The US and it's allies greatest assets of that era were its leaders and the countries ability to support the war effort. Also don't forget at the beginning of WW2 the US had basically a boy scout troop as its military. The US got it's arse handed to it badly in the early battles in Africa against Rommel in '42 assisting the Brits.

Now having said all that, of this young generation of today were growing up in the WW2 era I do not believe we would have had the political leadership to stand up to Hitler or the Emperor of Japan. battles may have been fought but some sort of capitulation plan would have been offered to avoid the major war that was the 2nd World War and our trajectory as a nation would have been much different.

This is my biggest fear with the people in power today. Yes, I believe Trump is capable of stiffening his neck and keeping us in the fight, same with Mattis as he as already shown that he loves fighting, and Gen. Kelly with the WH staff. It’s always good to have a few hard chargers around you.

But Capitol Hill would never vote for a WWII type of war, not that they need to anymore, but things are way too partisan on the Hill at this moment in time for them to come together and get things done. Hell, I think quite a few on the left would actively try to thwart any war gains we had.

On September 16, 1940, the United States instituted the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, which required all men between the ages of 21 and 45 to register for the draft. This was the first peacetime draft in United States' history.

I mean I could be, because WTF does the National WW2 Museum know about it anyway right.

If you think that, you haven't seen or read anything on young Japanese males in the last decade. They are not exactly the man's man type
