Weekend or weekday? Does the co-worker have pull (ie approves expense reports)? There’s more to the call than eating a humus wrap.

Probably over thinking. I am the oldest person in the group by over 20 years and I don't really understand the mindset of my much younger co-workers sometimes. They tend to perceive things differently than a person my age would and are more feeling driven than fact driven. The young lady celebrating the birthday is my assistant. She is new to the position but works hard. Previously my assistants were men closer to my age. Our work group would go to sports events to celebrate their birthdays.

Yeah….waaaaay overthinking this.

Dude, this person reports to you (which is probably the most relevant detail) and simply has different eating preferences. That’s it. Just go and have a salad or a drink.

Stop being a petty arse beta male. Go and order a drink. Find something on the menu you can at least pick on. It's one meal dumb arse. No one cares if you like it.

Weekend. We work with mentally ill teenagers and have to eat lunch with them during the week.

Not really but I can trust her to sound the alarm when all hell breaks loose which happens on a regular basis.

Is this event about the food or your assistant who works and who you trust? If the latter, you have your answer.

I get where you’re coming from here, but it’s not an excuse to just not go because it’s a vegan place, especially when you’ve added that it’s for YOUR assistant, who is hard-working and trustworthy.

I notice 1967 in your handle, and that leads me to guess that it’s your birth year. If so, you have the same one as I do. Yeah, there’s a definite generation gap. Try teaching a group of 12-13 year olds all day and being able to effectively communicate and connect with them.

You don’t have to eat. Order a tea or vegan water and just hang out. Eat before or after if need be. Not rocket science.

You sure you’re the boss and not a patient?

Judging by your posts in this thread, you're a loon that's a much bigger PITA to deal with than the "much younger coworkers."

You're a self-centered douche, and there's assuredly something on the menu you can order. Skip the meal entirely if you're going to be a problem child.
