I know the father personally and his kid was done wrong.
The school is majority black and black adminstrators.
The journalist(stretch) just used his story to push their racist agaenda. They should have really gave CJ's story what it deserved, not this pos race card hack job that was written.

Yeah, it really sounds like he was given the short end of bullshite zero tolerance policies.
Alternative school sounds like pure hell.

Penalty seems a little harsh for weed. I mean he wasn't high. He just happened to be in a car where weed was. I think detention or a 1-day in-school suspension was all that was warranted.

The valedictorian thread got me looking for some old schoolmates. Amazing that the black people I went to school with that paid attention in class and stayed out of trouble are doing well. Some of them extremely well.

I'm sure this weed infraction was the only trouble this young scholar had ever faced. A model student but for that unfortunate lapse of judgment.

I'm sorry that kid was put through this. I don't know him personally like you do so I'll take you at your word. Even in my earlier post I suggested that this expulsion probably was a bullshite one, I'm willing to give him that benefit of the doubt.
It just irks me that they throw out the statistics at large, and then bring up this one case as if to imply all expulsions of black kids are like this one, and that white kids don't get expelled for similar dumb reasons, hence why I brought up my friend that was expelled because his dad left his beer ice chest in the truck bed.
Although reading the article, it sounds like his "friends" hung him out to dry because they all said it was his weed. They found over a quarter ounce of the stuff in the vehicle in question. It belonged to somebody. So either it was his and should take accountability for that, or if it isn't, this should be a learning lesson for the kid about finding out who your real friends are and being careful about who you associate with.

My son goes to a pretty good private school that is about 10% black and these kids are great students and great kids. Their families and the teachers won’t let them fall into that trap of thinking like this.
